this is the startup to a brand new production line for a brand new product. sometimes partners slip on some things. this is normal, and generally how pre-orders for genuinely new kinds of products go. the difference is that framework tells us more about whatâs going on than any other companies.
Iâve pointed out multiple times in the FL16 threads, and IIRC one of them was in reply to you, that the FL13 AMD had up to 4 batches shipping at the same time, even though batches were starting at a cadence of about a week/batch.
Fair.
Thought I was in Batch 3, had to check my emails before posting and apparently Iâm on something.
Ryzen 7, normal keyboard layout but numpad attachment and mounted on the left side. Got everything up and running, gotta start thinking about upgrading RAM at some point I guess. +1 on the spacers around the touchpad not fitting well.
Working on getting everything up and running and so far I like it, only major complaint is that if I had the GFX module in my unit it wouldnât fit in my backpack. I have several options, but the one Iâm currently using is a very tight fit with no dGPU and realistically, I think the laptop will get a lot of negative press for not being this size with the GPU installed. Rest of the form factor is fantastic though.
Did the batch number in your order status actually change?
Just went back through all my emails, and apparently my brain just wasnât working properly. Not surprising with how busy Iâve been at work, honestly.
Mine is now âOn FedEx vehicle for deliveryâ
Can you maybe make a picture of the rubber pads underneath the midplate? My FW 16 did not get them yet, there are only three black distance holders installed, so Iâd be interested in how the midplate looks like with them installed.
Package arrived. Hurray!
Hereâs whatâs under my midplate. These pads feel pretty firm, and I couldnât feel any flexing when typing. Iâm not sure if this is the same as earlier batches, or if this is the fix they proposed after early feedback. Either way, it feels solid to me.
Thanks for the picture. So you actually mean the mainboard, I thought you meant the bottom side of the midplate. In the last e-mail, they said that their rubber stamp fix is still in the testing process, not sure if those long black strips are supposed to be said fix.
Technically, the mainboard IS under the midplate. But yes, I didnât mean on the underside of the midplate. Apologies for the confusion.
Pulling back up the post about the keyboard flex fix, no these pads arenât the proposed fix. If you look at the diagrams at the bottom of Destroyaâs post, the black pads were already there, while the red rectangles are where theyâre planning to put more pads.
That said, theyâve mentioned before that they didnât find any flex before the reviews pointing it out (LTT, etc), so the tolerance between each individual midplate may vary a bit.
Perhaps I got lucky and got a model with less flex? Or maybe Iâm just not noticing it? Either way, I love the Framework teamâs attitude in handling feedback.
Thatâs what mine looks like under the midplate and what the one in LTTâs review looks like before Alex added thermal pads to counteract the flex. Mine has significantly more flex in those areas compared to other areas. So far itâs not enough for to bother me like it does for Alex. It would be nice to have the same firmness across the board like my FW13, so when FW releases the mod Iâll definitely pick it up. So far Iâd say FW has released a solid product with the 16 that just needs some more refinement in a few areas that most people have already found.
I think my laptop is cursed lol. After setting everything up with an external keyboard and mouse, the right fan makes a horrible high pitch ticking noise whilst the left fan is silent. Someone is definitely out to get me
There has been a couple of reports of fan problems. Someone found there was some excess glue that had oozed into the fan blade path, and another found some tape had wrinkled and was being touched by the blades.
I had to cut a bit of paper to fix this on mine. Very easy to do, just just take the fan off and look for anything sticking up under it.
Mine was less than 0.5mm and may have been some backing from the black tape?
In any case, itâs super quiet now. Comparable to my 16" M2 MBP
Iâll try to disassemble it later. Heres hoping for the best
Edit: Yes! That was it, now itâs super quiet.
This is a great catch. And since it worked for @VeSeAr too, should it be mentioned to the Framework team? @Destroya, who should we contact to make aware of this situation to help improve the quality of the laptops to be shipped?
Received mine today, one day before it was scheduled. Seems fine just looking at it, at least!
Definitely, something is up with FedEx. It was suppose to be delivered today by noon. It is stuck in Memphis because it has not âcleared customsâ. At this point, that is an excuse and not a reason. I am fearing a bad result for this delivery.
