I wanted to share a possible issue I noticed in case it helps anyone else or is useful for future firmware troubleshooting.
My Framework Laptop 16 has the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 with Radeon 890M, the AMD Radeon RX 7700S graphics module, and 128 GB of RAM. With firmware 3.0.5 and Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, the system was stable.
More recently, after installing Ubuntu 26.04 LTS and firmware 3.0.6, I started having issues with the analog audio expansion card for the first time. The issue seemed to occur while streaming video in Firefox, such as DW, France 24, or NHK.
After some testing, it appears that the amount of allocated iGPU memory may affect whether the analog audio expansion card remains stable. So far, I have not experienced further audio-card dropouts when either:
- iGPU memory configuration is set to Auto with the memory size set to Medium / 32 GB, or
- iGPU memory configuration is set to Custom with 16 GB or more selected.
With lower iGPU memory settings, including 8 GB, the analog audio expansion card dropout returned.
I am not sure whether the root cause is the firmware, AMD graphics memory handling, Firefox video streaming, hardware video decode, or some interaction between these components. The connection may be indirect, since the issue seems to appear during video streaming rather than ordinary audio use.
I mainly wanted to bring awareness to the pattern in case others see similar behavior. My guess is that this is the kind of issue that may be improved in a future firmware update.
