Google Coral Expansion Card

So it turns out that the USB3 type is a different chip itself, waiting on a quote from Mouser and I’ll then evaluate if it’s worthwhile.

On the topic of Coral expansion…

Could the M.2 Coral card work in the Framework 16’s second (2230) M.2 slot?

No, it’s keyed to work in wifi (A+E key) slots, not ssd slots and there’s no cross-compatibility (physically)

Edit: There is a B+M key version, but it’s longer, so it would replace the 2280 ssd, or maybe you could cut it down??? M.2 Accelerator B+M key | Coral

Welp, time to get the Dremel Tool out.

Ok, this is actually my last Framework module for a while, Google Coral USB3 module for $103USD

If I’m reading dmidecode output correctly, it looks like both my 11th Gen i5 and 13th Gen i5 boards are only x1 lane to the JWLAN endpoint. So looks like no go on the dual coral chip option in WiFi m.2.

Anybody know how well the coral works if hooked up via USB3? Horribly kneecapped, or still good performance?

Just an update on my module, still waiting on the Coral modules themselves to be delivered from RS Components.

My original ETA for the arrival of the modules have been consistently pushed back, now my supplier is quoting “manufacturing issues” and I have no ETA right now.

I’ve finally been able to source these modules, so I’ll now work on the PCB design.
