Has anyone tried ROCm 7.1.1 on Ubuntu 25.10?

AMD seemingly only supports Ubuntu 24.04 right now, so I’m curious if the instructions listed here will work well out of the box for Ubuntu 25.10. I ultimately want to use ROCm-enabled XGBoost. Or is my best bet to wait for Ubuntu 26.x when ROCm support is built-in?

I don’t use Ubuntu….but IG (in general)…ROCm is very much an in-development feature and it has changed a bunch over the last year, and like AMD AGESA it can be pretty buggy as it is being actively developed (as much as many people complain about Framework BIOS like v0.3.4, many if not most motherboards on AMD have AGESA and therefore AMD teething pains). I personally have never gotten ROCm to work on LM Studio, but other folks at various times have. There’s also other options for running local LLMS than LM Studio.

With LLMs locally, be prepared for a lot of tinkering and experimentation, rather than set-it-forget-it.

You would be better off if your kernel > 6.17 < 6.18.3 to use ROCM 7.2 So if you are using “current’“ kernel 6.18.9 as of this writing with the ‘correct’ updated 2026 firmware you should have fewer stability issues.
