I was looking around for a good fan controller for bazzite when I noticed ujust had commands for cooler control (A service for monitoring system temps and and fan curves that was generically available via ujust) and a ujust to enable fw_fanctrl, a systemd service thats compatible with cooler control.
However fw_fanctrl only mentions framework laptops in the documentation, so I was curious if anyone has actually tried this service and verified it works correctly with a framework desktop or if I should run like hell and look for other options when it comes to trying to regulate my fans speed?
Its just, the other options such as framework control and yafi’s installs don’t look nearly as friendly to the way bazzite asks me to interact with the package system (And looking at yafi in particular, the bazzite devs called it “insecure as hell” in one issue I saw online that has me uncertain of that one,) and I’m noticing that the bios settings for my fans are silently ignored the moment bazzite actually reaches the desktop. I’d rather have the apu fan turn on a bit more to cool off the system rather than wait for the power supply fan to start kicking on despite the room temperatures being ~18c. Said APU fan sounds way better than the power supply.
Essentially though the heart of the issue was I was looking for a reputable way of adjusting the fans without violating the methods bazzite uses to regulate user access to the system. Since while I have used other linux versions for a while on other computers, I’m still trying to wrap my head around the restrictions bazzite uses to keep systems stable. (I really want to keep this device running for as long as possible.)
