Regularly, but depend on the workload (and thus power draw).
Framework didnt put a (meaningful) power limit on the CPU, so it will just go to 100 given the workload. Like Cinebench, or whatever.
Just figured out a potential fix for heat issues. I had to install the fan control software and run it. Put it on 60% which isnāt very audible. No more throttling. No more laggy videos. No more roasty toasty laptop. I canāt believe it was something this stupid. The stupid fan calculation must have had it at 10-20% or something ridiculous while running at more than light workloads unless it is close to or at full bore. But at least my laptop is running significantly better. Software is ectool. I run NixOS, so it would be fw-ectool for that issue. Use:
sudo ectool --interface=lpc fanduty 70 (70% in this example)
@Destroya This may be a potential issue people are having outside of spotty liquid metal coverage, which is more so core temperature differentiation rather than heat issues.
I wish this was a bit clearer before I bought since I didnāt think the 7940HS would be better for me, practically, but supporting undervolting would have been a dealmaker for me
I used this to mitigate the issues from the TIM performance (by just delaying fan onset and ramping in harder), but it didnāt change actual performance for me, just the apparent noise and constant ramping up/down of the fans
