I would prefer this higher resolution which I find more suitable for 2x scaling. Fractional scaling is still unreliable with some older apps in Linux.
I would love to see 3240×2160 (basically a narrower 4k) but I don’t know if anyone makes such panels. 3000×2000 might be adequate, though it’s narrower than my current 3200×1800 (which still seems to me to be the absolute “sweet spot” for a 13" screen).
And, honestly, I’d rather see 1920×1280 than the current 2256×1504 which is frankly awful for Linux. (It drives me nuts that no one offers high-DPI screens that are usable on Linux, which tends to not work well with non-integer scaling factors.)
2160-row only exists in 15" and 32" right now.
So it looks like I’m not alone in this:
@matthew3
3000x2000 would be great I think. It’s a bit more narrow than the 3200x1800 I’m using on my XPS 13, but that would be compensated by the additional vertical space.
It turns out the Surface Book 2 and 3 use a 13.5" 3000×2000 display… I’m half tempted to get one off eBay and try to Frankenstein something together.
I’d love to see that! So if you do, please document it so I can follow your lead.
Also, there’s this, but something isn’t right with the pictures because that’s not a 3:2 ratio: https://www.amazon.com/LCDOLED-Compatible-Replacement-Surface-Book/dp/B07D2CGCNM
There’s a discussion about the panel type: Looking for a specsheet on the screen before ordering.
Current panel is probably this one: BOE NE135FBM-N41 Overview - Panelook.com
Connector: eDP (2 Lanes), eDP1.4, HBR1 (2.7G/lane), 40 pins Connector
Unfortunately there’s only one 13.5" 3K panel on that website: Panasonic VVX14P048M00 Overview - Panelook.com
It has a different connector: eDP (4 Lanes), 50 pins Connector
Maybe @nrp can confirm which connector is used for current panel and if there’s a chance to use a panel with 50 pins connector.
This panel would be awesome in the next version!
Even on Windows, only 200% scaling looks good. I have Surface Book and the 3000x2000 screen is excellent. I bought a Surface Laptop 4 with 2256x1504 screen and returned it because of display artifacts: when viewing a web page with multiple horizontal 1px lines, some lines appear thicker than others, which is a deal breaker for me. (The scaling was 150%).
I am casting another vote for 3000x2000 screen.
anyone put the 3000x2000 screen in yet? For me it’s a must to use 200% scaling with my eyes. I guess it comes down to the Connector (eDP (2 Lanes), eDP1.4, HBR1 (2.7G/lane), 40 pins) is the 2 lanes enough?? What about touch?
