HX370 laptop runs very hot on AC power

My Ryzen AI 9 HX370 laptop runs very hot while plugged into AC power, often even when idle (no CPU or disk activity shown in Task Manager).

I’m running Windows 11 and have the systems configured to “Best Performance” when plugged in, but still I’m very surprised that the laptop regularly runs this hot when it’s doing nothing. As shown in the picture, this easily runs into the “too hot to use on the lap” territory.

Is anyone else seeing this?

When I first got mine (batch 1) it ran very hot. Especially when gaming because the power draw would go well over 60W (the battery was running down even when plugged in), but also at some other times; it clearly wasn’t obeying the rated TDP. Updating the AMD chipset drivers seems to rein it in; the battery no longer runs down while gaming, and the system is cooler throughout. AMD’s Adrenalin software updates the chipset driver as well as the graphics driver; I’m using the latest drivers installed by that, not the ones from Framework’s driver pack.
