I would love to make the FW13 my main laptop, but can't because of the trackpad

So I have been a Mac user all my life and I got a Framework 13 for college. I love it so much but, there’s one thing I’d change in order to replace my Macbook Pro entirely. The hinged trackpad. I am fine with the size, it’s just extremely difficult to press the top of the trackpad. I’d say it’s fine for the bottom 75% of the trackpad but as you get higher it’s super difficult to press. I know this is not the correct thread but, does anyone know if the Framework 16 has a hinged trackpad? Anyway. I would love to see a new trackpad released that fits in the same slot, just not hinged so that I can press anywhere.

At this time, all Framework machines have hinged trackpads (12, 13, and 16). I normally use tap to click, so it doesn’t bother me too much. But when using the physical click, Macbook trackpads are definitely better, in my opinion.

This is the way.

The bad news is that all the current Framework products use hinged trackpads. The good news is that in one of their recent videos about the new Framework Laptop 16 updates, they mentioned that they have been experimenting with haptic trackpads, which means someday we may get them as future upgrades!

I agree with the OP….it’s a giant pain for right clicking or clicking and dragging. I guess my frustration with the track pad led me in a different direction: I bought a Logitech G603 and MX Keys Mini and absolutely love them. The strange result of that successful experiment is that I don’t really understand why the laptop has a vestigial keyboard and trackpad at all. To clarify, a tablet with some semi-rigid stand and BT keyboard/mouse+stylus seems like it fills the need for a big segment of users. So, in short, my suggestion would be a G603+MX Keys Mini and then hope for a FW tablet!

Update: I did a little mod that’s completely reversable. I bought this ring resizing kit from amazon a while ago that has like foam and rubber inserts and I used a combination of those to basically have the bottom of the trackpad have the same rigidity as the top; forcing me to use tap to click. So far I like it!

I went from a Macbook Pro to a Framework 13 in 2021 and tap to click, two finger scrolling and other trackpad gestures made the transition very smooth. It’s glass top so it doesn’t feel like a decrease in quality. I don’t miss the MBP trackpad at all.
