I have a Franework 13 intel running Ubuntu 24.10
This morning, it lost it’s wireless connection to my network. It didn’t completely loose it though. I see all the access points and there is plenty of signal yet the computer doesn’t want to actually connect to the network.
Every once in a while it does connect for a while. I have had a dropped wifi connection on occasion in the past - all I do is reboot and all is well. With today’s issue, rebooting does nothing. I have restarted the Ubiquity access point (other computers connect to that access point with no apparent issues) and I have rebooted the Ubiquity router. None of this helps.
When I go to the wifi connection panel, I see either ‘good’ or ‘excellent’ for signal strength but no connection can be established.
Every once in a while, probably the Universe messing with me, the wifi connection establishes and all is fine … until it drops again after a short time.
To make things even weirder, I had another Framework 13 that also lost connection. My first guess was that there was some external interference but here I am with one computer having a solid connection and another one having no connection despite showing excellent signal levels.
I have run out of ideas as to what could cause this kind of situation and what other tests I could run to track down the issue. I would hate to have to tear two laptops apart in order to swap wifi modules and I am hoping that there is some other way of finding out what is going on.
BTW I am not in airplane mode and wifi is enabled …
The way this all started is that I was minding my own business, just reading some stuff on the internet when the connection dropped. There was no configuration change or anything else besides just browsing the internet …
I thought that maybe there was a bad connection on either the wifi module or the antenna cables so today I pulled the wifi module and reconnected it … no change. I thought I had it there for maybe 2 minutes when the computer connected to the network but it dropped off shortly thereafter.
If I was to order a replacement wifi module, should I buy the Intel or the AMD module. This laptop runs Ubuntu 24.10
There may be some things to try in this thread: [TRACKING] WiFi drops out (especially when downloading a lot) but fixes instantly by reconnecting (AMD) - #21 by James3
Best of luck sorting it out.
I ended up swapping the wifi module with another FW13. It worked (at reduced speed) for a while and then stopped working indicating that the issue is with the module.
I have ordered a replacement.
