Internal DMIC silent on Framework 13 AMD (Ryzen AI 9 HX 370) — confirmed kernel-level bug, filed upstream

Posting this in case others are hitting the same thing, and to flag it for Framework in case it needs escalation beyond the kernel side.

Issue: The internal microphone (DMIC) on my Framework 13 AMD board captures complete silence, with zero errors anywhere in the kernel log.

What I ruled out:

  • Not a PipeWire/WirePlumber config issue — tested with raw arecord directly against the ALSA device, bypassing userspace audio entirely. Still silent.
  • Not a UCM profile issue — that’s a separate, unrelated bug I hit and fixed on this same machine (the HD Audio codec’s HiFi (Headset, Mic1, Speaker) profile), which is a different PCI device from the DMIC.
  • Not a missing/outdated SOF firmware issue — alsa-sof-firmware-2025.12.2 is installed, but the DMIC card is actually bound to the legacy (non-SOF) acp_mach driver rather than the SOF DSP path.

System:

  • Framework Laptop 13 (AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series), System Version A9
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 w/ Radeon 890M
  • OS: Fedora Linux 44, KDE Plasma 6.7.5, KDE Frameworks 6.30.0, Qt 6.11.2, Wayland
  • Kernel: 7.2.5-200.fc44.x86_64
  • BIOS/EC firmware: 04.02
  • DMIC: acp-pdm-mach, PCI 0000:c1:00.5, driver acp_mach

I’ve filed a full bug report with alsa-info.txt and reproduction steps upstream at thesofproject/linux#5944. Posting here too since this affects the internal mic specifically on this board, and it’d be good to know if others are seeing the same silent-capture behavior (vs. just poor quality, which seems to be a separate, more commonly reported complaint).

Working around it for now with a USB headset.
