When I close the laptop’s lid and reopen it, the touchpad cursor is frequently invisible on the screen (the majority of the time). Any movement on the touchpad opens and closes the view of all apps and the taskbar/dock (I’m new to GNOME and don’t know what it is called. I tried plugging in a USB mouse to see if that restores the cursor to the screen. It does, but just when moving the mouse. Touching the touchpad makes the cursor disappear and the app switching thing reappears.

Does anybody know what the problem is? Is it just a setting or command line I can run? I heard GNOME has good touch support, so I thought to give it a try. Should I just go back to KDE? Is it an issue in Wayland? My desktop and mini-PC both run Bazzite with the KDE desktop.

This sounds like a setting in the Linux system settings. In Fedora there is a setting for mouseover to bring a window to the front. What you describe sounds like that is set.
