Issues running GDM with the 5070 GPU

When I got my new Framework laptop, I installed Debian 13 with KDE Plasma as my desktop environment and GDM for my display manager. When it finishes booting it goes to a black screen and GDM never shows up. When I apt purge GDM and then reinstall it and start it manually it works, but after I reboot the computer it stops working and I can only see a black screen. Is this somehow related to the fact that I am using the new 5070 GPU? Thanks in advance.

Also I did install the proper driver from the Nvidia website and I can see the GPU when I run nvidia-smi so it definitely is recognized.

Which Linux distro are you using? Debian

Which release version? 13.2.0 (trixie)
(if rolling release without a release version, skip this question)

(If rolling release, last date updated?)

Which kernel are you using? Linux

Which BIOS version are you using? LFKN 6.03.04

Which Framework Laptop 16 model are you using? (AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 with the 5070 GPU)

Sorry, I was wrong, I didn’t pick up you have the newer CPU.

Don’t have a fix, but when you get to the black screen on reboot, just typing in your password will let you in a boot up your display. I’ve been looking for a more long term solution myself

I tried this multiple times and it didn’t work. I suspect it is some GDM file because when I apt purge GDM (which deletes it and its files too) and reinstall it I can use it until I reboot. Is there really no way to fix it?

Have you tried switching to SDDM? I ask because that is the default DM for KDE on Debian 13.

SDDM can’t launch at all for me.

Try setting your graphics to Nvidia only in the bios, this seems to work. There seems to be an issue using the igpu on the login screens, X server maybe.
