Hi, I’m wondering whether it’s “healthier” for my battery to keep my charger plugged in (when I’m just at my desk) or whether it’s better for me to unplug the charger once it’s at 100% (or maybe lower, like 80%) and let the battery drain before plugging it back in. Hopefully, it’s not a significant different anyway. I know these days batteries are “smarter,” but evidently, I’m not well-acquainted with the details and wanted to check. I hope to take decent care of my first Framework device!
you can limit charge limit in bios
I have battery charge limit set to 80% in BIOS and use the laptop plugged in 99% of the time. Perhaps the best thing you can do for your battery is to set the charge limit to ~80%. Once that’s done, stop worrying about whether to plug-in the device or not. If you’re at your desk/close to a power outlet, plug it in; otherwise, use it un-plugged. For normal use (some productivity & coding work but not pushing the system), I usually get ~5-6 hours of runtime with a 55Wh battery on my FwL 13 with the HX 370.
I have battery charge limit set to 60% in BIOS and use the laptop plugged in most of the time.
For me 60% charge is sufficient for when the laptop is unplugged from the charger. I think 60% is less stressful for the life of the battery than 80%.
I’ve now copied you and set the limit to 60%. Thank you ![]()
