Laptop 12 Rugged Version

Got this notebook for my wife as an upgrade. I would really like to use it on the job a rugged and tough option would be awesome. I run an HVAC company and I can see if you can make these survive the everyday beating of an HVAC Technician. I would buy one of these for every new member of my company.

Hnn I feel like it is quite “rugged” already is not it? I mean not for outdoor use, but what exactly is missing for you?

For job site use, I think one wants a device to withstand getting thrown around daily, tossed into the back of a van or next to a seat, shoved between items with some force, dropped not infrequently, onto pavement and concrete. Several levels beyond what’s seen in home use, even use by kids. When they say “everyday beating” they mean it. Day after day, for years.

There is also the fact that equipment that is owed by the company rather than the user themselves just normally sees rougher use on average. People just are less concerned when they aren’t paying for something. Regular business-class laptops are made to withstand more than consumer-class laptops for this reason.

The company I work for moved to “tough” laptops and tablets for the field techs after too many were damaged. The guy taking in the broken units once sent me a pic of a laptop with a fairly obvious shoe-print on the top. Don’t get me wrong, they weren’t abusing laptops on purpose. A Framework 12 would probably hold up fine most of the time, for most folks. But out in the field, stuff happens. Also, with how much they are needed these days, a computer that can be used in the rain/snow is a plus.

When the first “rugged” unit showed up for testing, a manager took it outside and immediately threw it across the parking lot. He said that if it couldn’t survive that, we didn’t want any more, so we might as well start with that, lol.
