Lenovo/Ramaxel Memory Compatibility on Intel Ultra Series 3

TL;DR: A new Interposer is our likely saviour! - Successful use of the Lenovo LPCAMM2 module

So, in the interest of science/community or my own peril, I decided to listen to my younger self and test my last night’s assumption that perhaps this RAM module simply needs a new interposer.

So, I ended up using Kapton tape to block the additional 22 pins in the Framework supplied interposer to see if it would accept the Lenovo LPCAMM2 module. And voila! It did.

For reference, here are the modules (lenovo to the left) with the Framework supplied interposer.

And here is my third attempt at using Kapton tape to mask the pins (I shaved off some tape in the end at the bottom half after this picture was taken)

And we are Memory training

And it showing up in BIOS.

I call this a partial success. I am running Memtest86 now and will report back the results.

@catastrophic Sorry about tagging you. Perhaps you can pass this on to the Team as I remember reading a reddit post where you commented.

Final Update:

4 Passes without any failures and I also setup NixOS on it with my flake and didn’t notice anything unforeseen when doing my regular work.

That concludes my tiny share of community testing with a good measure of hope that with the right interposer (perhaps from Lenovo), I think this and daresay similar E0 modules are a viable alternative. THat being said, I will switch back to my Crucial LPCAMM2 module to finally start using the laptop proper as my primary device.
