I have been having several issues with my new laptop and unable to boot.

I downloaded a fresh Linux Mint on a USB thumb drive. I can get to the LiveCD environment…. but ONLY if I use compatibility mode. Once in the LiveCD environment, the laptop keyboard and trackpad do NOT work. I am able to connect a hardwired USB mouse and keyboard, though.

I installed the firmware updates to get the latest version of the firmward with fwupdmgr. I rebooted and it did the upgrade. I believe the version I have is now the latest: 3.04. I re-ran fwupdmgr once again to check, and it didn’t show any new updates.

Upon reboot, I still need to use compatibility mode for the Linux Mint boot. Additionally, the laptop mouse and trackpad still do NOT work in the LiveCD environment.

I was still able to do a fresh install of Linux Mint onto the SSD.

I removed the USB drive and rebooted. It flashed the Linux Mint logo. Pressing ESC, I was able to see the start of the bootup sequence. But then the screen mode changes and the screen goes black.

I am unable to boot.

Could anyone offer me assistance?

Looks like Mint gives you kernel 6.8? If so, that’s too old. I didn’t see things start to stabilize until 6.15.4, and actually start getting good until 6.15.8.

There is a reason they recommend Fedora or Bazzite because they use a recent Linux kernel that is needed with this chipset.
A lot of other Linux flavors use a kernel that is older and doesn’t support the Ryzen AI chip.

I have Fedora running on my 13 Ryzen 5 AI…works perfectly!

If you want to use Ubuntu or a Ubuntu 24.04 derivative you can sudo apt install linux-oem-24.04c

To get it to work to a point you can install stuff you need to use the kernel parameter “nomodeset” (no mode set).

hit ‘e’ to edit the boot line when the menu comes up and replace “quiet splash” with “nomodeset”

You’ll need to do the same on first boot under Mint and every boot until you have the drivers installed
