Hi Everyone, I’m Meenu Hinduja and my husband Dheeraj Sudan, run a business. I’m planning to upgrade my Framework laptop’s RAM and storage and wanted to get advice from people who’ve done this before.

Welcome!
The Framework 16 maintenance guides include step-by-step instructions for working on your Framework 16. I have a Framework 13 and found the guide for it easy to follow. I hope someone with a Framework 16 chimes in and can supply any surprising details not in the guide – but I think that the guides are good so I doubt there are any gotchas.
Hello Meenu,
The support guides from Framework do a great job of explaining how to open the laptop and assembling/disassembling parts on their machines.
I own both a Framework 13 and 16 there are a few differences to keep in mind as there are a few more steps on the 16 due to the modularity.
While the guides may seem a little short, searching YouTube videos and watching the ones that are useful to your scenario a few times is helpful.
The important thing to keep in mind is have a clean open space to work on the device and keep track of the steps as you disassemble the device.
The mid-plate screws and the order in which they are removed and tightened are important. If they are super tight when you first go to loosen them just know they do not necessarily need to be ridiculously tight when putting them back together. Just keep track of screws and parts as you go along. The RAM and SSD are the two easiest things to upgrade in the machine.
One last thought. Be careful with the SSD screw, it is tiny and can be stripped easily. If you think this might be too much to take on yourself, any local computer repair shop can easily do the upgrades for this device if you bring them the parts and the laptop. I can’t see a shop charging more than an hour of shop time for this service and maybe they will let you watch them as they go through it.
Let us know what happens and your thoughts. We are all end users here and many of us have done these upgrades to this very same device.
