Other linux distros for gaming

Hi all. We have a Framework laptop 13 at home running a 7040. It started on Fedora, and various issue have been piling up on it - I’m about ready to wipe and reinstall the OS.

Other computers at home are running Nobara and Bazzite. IIRC, Nobara is Fedora based. Performance for that PC has been noticeably better on Nobara compared with Fedora, which it used before. So I’m considering doing that with the FW13.

The kids also tried Bazzite, but it’s been fussy about running Wine and been tricky about getting Prism to run for their mods.

Who’s tried Bazzite on a Fw13? How’d it go?

Any alternatives we could have a spin with - I’ve heard Cachy OS is quite good too.

I’ve been running PopOS on my fw12 with no problems for 2 months now  :+1:

Both Nobara and Bazzite are based on Fedora

+1 For CachyOS

I have it on my desktop and Steamdesk for about a year now and just installed it on my FW 13 7640U.

Lots of tweeks under the hood, but stable as ever. Its super fast. They have great documentation and also include a lot of utilities to make managing Arch easy.

I’ve heard PikaOS is good (debian based). Personally, I’m on Debian 13 and I use flatpaks for Steam, Lutris, and Heroic

If you’re up for something totally different, I’ve been having a ton of fun on NixOS. Not particularly easy to get started with, but very satisfying once you’ve got things where you want them.
