Framework 13 keyboards fail at an alarming rate under normal use.
Issue is not isolated, a quick search in the forums or reddit will show you how many people have issues with the keyboards.
Support is just going to have you do a bunch of meaningless tasks and then tell you to buy a new input cover.
If anyone missed out on a laptop with a keyboard situation on par with the apple butterfly switch debacle, pick up a Framework 13 and feel left out no more.
My evidence is anecdotal for sure, but the two Framework 13 11th gens that I have bought and upgraded over the years have not had any issues. I do not use the laptops on what I would call a daily basis, but probably use them 3-5 times a week.
I do not see a whole lot of topics here saying things similar to what you are saying here. I counted 7 that were about keyboard failures, and not specific OS driven issues. This is over the course of ~4 years. I would think that if this was a real thing, we would see significantly more topics on it.
I really question the validity of what you’re saying. Do you have experiences of your own you could share with us? If there are issues, instead of trying to kill Framework, I would rather help them improve and keep being the awesome company that they are.
We do not know the rate, at all. Since Framework, given their size, can’t exactly release sales numbers of a particular product without giving competitors valuable information and an advantage. Could be 1% of laptops, could be 0.001%.
I had been a little concerned at the reports of keyboard issues until I reminded myself that we don’t have numbers. And people who have no problems with their laptops don’t normally come to such a thread to give even some idea of how many just on the forum have had an issue.
I’ve used mine normally for almost 4 years, and never had it fail. Remember that people don’t post to the forums when their keyboards are working just fine, so to only look at the people having problems doesn’t tell you anything about the ones having no issues.
Not saying this is the case with the original poster; lots of users that are hard on things in general have a lot of electronics fail. Whereas the the majority of users are kind to their electronics and they work for decades without issue. A hint is anyone who has keys missing or rubbing off from flat out abuse.
Ever notice that the electronics that are in the lost and found are just horribly beat up? Take a look at some of the B and C grade stuff that resells on eBay. Be nice to things and they will last a lot longer.
Lastly, the keyboard is a cheap part and incredibly easy to replace, good luck with Apple or other brands out there.
