Random shutdowns, restarts, and artifacting on Framework 16

Hello all,

I’m wondering if anyone has had any luck in fixing the random crashing and screen artifacting issues that I’ve been plagued by. I just updated my Framework 16 to the latest BIOS revision in hopes of fixing the issue, and I’ve found it has somehow gotten worse, to the point that I’m able to log into Debian 13 and then get an immediate screen artifact which crashes the computer entirely.

Originally, it was just intermittent black screens and the fans kicking up (necessitating a hardware reset). But now, it’s frequent. I’m at my wits end with fighting with it, so I was hoping that this wonderful community would be able to point me in the right direction!

Thanks

P.S. this is the Framework 16 with the graphics module.

Edit: here’s what the artifact looks like, and it will flicker: https://imgur.com/a/ekhOJbO

Not unless they have physical access to your computer.

I have never seen what you seem to be experiencing. Would recommend you reach out to support.

Hey @morin Shoot an email to our support. We’ll take a look. Please provide the following when sending your email:

Which Linux distro are you using?

Which release version?
(if rolling release without a release version, skip this question)

(If rolling release, last date updated?)

Which kernel are you using?

Which BIOS version are you using?

Which Framework Laptop 16 model are you using? (AMD Ryzen™ 7040 Series)
