For the numpad/macropad I could see multiples if you program each of them to do different things. I could even kinda see it for the LED matrixes for the same reason. But for the colored spacers, ordering 6 just… Doesn’t make sense to me on one device.
Huh?
Maybe you have multiple Frameworks, maybe you are a dev or otherwise have plans for them. Maybe you plan to eat them.
Most likely reason to fill the keyboard with spacers, you use a sweet custom mechanical ergo keyboard & you want the solid surface to place it. People have actually requested a single continuous blank spacer for this reason, so that they don’t need a bunch of small ones.
Okay, valid point that someone might attach all 6 to use external kb/mouse or want spares in case one breaks. But then again, you could order them separate from the Parts store as well and you’re forced to spec in a keyboard in the DIY Edition configurator. As for “multiple Frameworks”… Why would you then order them with another Framework attached? Again, the Parts store is a thing.
What a weird question. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you have to. Just get 2 and be happy. Why the need to create a whole forum thread complaining about the choice?
To be honest, it hit me as a little odd too. As it felt phrased to imply that Framework is perhaps wrong to allow a user to have this choice?
Difference in view, maybe. A very rigid configurator that treats us like children, assuming it knows what we should want & attempting to protect us from ourselves, would not be in-line with Framework. Framework is about providing choice and freedom, not telling people what they may & may not do with the product they are paying for / own. Could be a reason someone wants extra which we may not have even considered. At most, I think one could maybe argue for showing a notification saying that in common configurations only 2 spacers are required.
It wasn’t my intention to frame it as wrong. If it came across like that, I am sorry.
Yeah, that little bit of clarity would be nice to make more prominent. I think it says it somewhere (in the FAQ) that you can fit 2 small spacers/LED strips or one numpad/macropad, but it might be made a little more obvious in the builder to accommodate for both “Your use-case can be covered” and “I’m a complete newbie and I’d be overspending if I bought more than what fits on the laptop”. Going to mark your post as a solution.
