Hi!

I’m hoping someone can help me with this very particular/specific issue!
I have the Framework 13, with the Intel 12th Gen 1280p mainboard.
I’m using Arch Linux, and everything is working great, except for one thing, which is any type of streaming/recording, or rather it does work, but if I start streaming or recording, whether it be on Discord, OBS, or in Steam’s built-in Game Recording feature, whatever I’m playing instantly gets choppy/laggy, huge framerate drop.
It doesn’t matter if I’m trying to record/stream in 3000kbps or 50000kbps, native resolution, or 720p, internal monitor or external monitor, iGPU or eGPU (with the RX 6950 XT), QuickSync H.254 or HEVC, x264, FFmpeg VAAPI H.264 or HEVC, it’s the same result, the second I start streaming/recording, I’m getting a huge performance hit!
It also doesn’t matter if I’m playing any demanding game like Ghost of Tsushima (with the eGPU, ofc) or Duke Nukem 3D, or Bloons TD (with either iGPU or eGPU), it’s always the same performance hit.
I’ve tried many different kernels; I’m currently on 6.16.4-arch1-1, but it doesn’t matter which one when it comes to the iGPU and how it’s behaving.
Side note, with the eGPU, I have to be on 6.1.12 or earlier; otherwise, the EGPU doesn’t work, but that’s a whole other, unrelated eGPU/Linux Kernel issue that is present on other distros as well.
I was on an earlier BIOS, and updated to 3.18, but it didn’t change anything.
I’m using KDE Plasma with Wayland (I’ve also tried x11, same thing).
Running Windows with the exact same setup gives me a flawless experience. I can game any game while streaming or recording, iGPU or eGPU, everything is perfect, and I know I should be able to on Linux as well, the desktop equivalent of this CPU is not having any issues, heck, even my 7th gen 7700k can do all of this on Linux without issues, even with the iGPU, which is so much worse than the 12th gen for encoding, etc.
I have to note, I’ve been using Arch for more than 10 years at this point, and I’ve never encountered this issue before, so I know it’s something specific to this hardware, which is why I’m writing here, in the hopes that another 12th Gen owner has had the same experience and has a solution ![]()
Also, I own 2 1280p laptops, and it’s the exact same issue on both of them, so it’s not just this specific mainboard that’s faulty or anything.
I know that the hardware is more than capable of doing this (and it can on Windows), so I’m very puzzled as to what is going on here. ![]()
Any help is much appreciated!!! ![]()
