Tablet mode detection stopped working in Fedora 44

Which Linux distro are you using? Fedora

Which release version? 44
Which kernel are you using? 6.19.14-300.fc44.x86_64

Which BIOS version are you using? Latest

Which Framework Laptop 12 model are you using? (13th Gen Intel® Core™) i5

I upgraded from F43 to F44 recently and auto detection has stopped working for Tablet Mode when I fold the screen back. Has anyone else got this issue? I’m switching between GNOME and Phosh as my DE.

There are a few issues open for other manufactureres

Same for me also. Current fix is, screen rotation is enabled always, then works rotation atleast. But tablet mode detection itself clearly not working.

Sure. I haven’t had any issues with rotation.

I’m going to try downgrading the firmware and see if that solves it. Is the fw12 cpu lunar lake?

These are the steps I took to fix it. It downgraded to linux-firmware 20260309-1

sudo dnf downgrade linux-firmware
reboot
sudo dracut -f --regenerate-all
reboot
sudo dnf versionlock add linux-firmware-20260309

This is the better fix that doesn’t require you to lock an old version: linux-docs/framework12/Fedora-all.md at main · FrameworkComputer/linux-docs · GitHub

I’ll check it out.

edit: did the dracut edit method as it is less typing. Works a treat.

My bug has been closed as a dupe 2448048 – linux-firmware-20260309 broke iio-sensor-proxy.service (tablet mode)

Same here with my FW12". Updated to F44 recently, just noticed that the Tablet Mode doesn’t work anymore. Then my partner – who has also al FW12" – still on F43 with working Tablet Mode updated to F44 and … no Tablet Mode anymore.

As we’re quite new to Linux … what’s the common approach here? Just wait for a fix to be released?

Have a look at the link Jonathan posted

This worked, thanks!

Mine has stopped working also. But I noticed if I restart two or three times in a row it works again.

So mine partially works.

I don’t have a fix but I do have a workaround if you’re in KDE.
I had already been using this extension that lets me rotate the screen so I can read manga on my side in bed. Works pretty well if you’re like me and use tablet mode constantly.

I hope they fix this soon because restarting doesn’t fix it anymore. I’m just banned from using auto rotate and tablet mode in Fedora 44.

(After reading more I realized this work around is kinda stupid)

Sounds like my decision to stick with 43 for a bit to see how things play out is paying off, lol. I hope this is fixed soon.

Thanks a lot. Worked nicely!

Works perfectly. Thank you so much for sharing!

Same here, I got rid of the temporary fix and it works automatically now.

Edit: Actually, I take that back  unfortunately.
