Congrats for 1000th post in this thread!
Happy Crackiversary

I’ve only had this thing since Thursday. There are now deformations that weren’t here when I got it…
Will keep monitoring this. If it gets worse, I’m afraid I’ll have to start bugging support.
Hello, I’m sorry to have to tell you this, but it already looks cracked.
I would recommend that, if you have the time, you contact support directly.
Just contacted support with the issue. Honestly pretty disappointed, I was really hoping they’d filtered the crack-prone cases out of new units by now. Might ask for a refund on the laptop hardware and re-use the SSD/RAM in a different device, given how prevalent this issue seems to be.
The problem with the RAM and SSD is that, as far as I have seen, there are not really many offers where you can leave those out, unless you buy used or something like that. And then you may still run into problems with the RAM and SSD standard.
I specced it from FW themselves, so if I have to give it back because refund policy, so be it I guess, but… Yeah.
It is just standard SO-DIMM RAM that fits any other FW device, and a standard 2230 SSD I can put in a caddy or a 16, though.
Framework’s history with material and mechanical engineering…let’s just say there’s room for lessons.
Finally found some time to swap out my bottom shell with the replacement from support.
Painless process getting it sent and replacing it.
Let us hope this one lasts!
Do you know the manufacturing date (the stamp marks)? We’re desperately trying to find someone with any component from 2026/01 or newer. All cracks mentioned here were production date before that. IIRC the latest date with pics in this thread was 2025/11.
According to support production was “fixed” in week 50/2025 which would be mid December. But so far nobody that received a replacement part has gotten a new one - even though support claimed otherwise.
I received my 5th bottom cover (1 orig + 4 replacement) about a week ago and it was not from after week 50.
But this was a new date that I hadn’t received previously. Previously I had only received bottom covers from April/May 2025. The most recent one I received is from September 2025.
Mold Stamped Date: 25 9 3 0 (2025-09-30)
Bottom Cover Sticker Date: 2025.10.11
Box Manufacture Date: 02/2026
Date Received: 2026-04-03
Hi, that’s really kind of you, but the date we’re currently looking for is the one that is stamped directly into the underside of the part during the injection molding process. I’ve attached two pictures here in case that helps you find it. Maybe you happened to photograph it as well.
Thanks again in advance.
They are the numbers written above the images.
They sent me another top and bottom cover as well as new hinges. They’ll be here tomorrow and first thing I’m gonna check the date.
It sounds like there could have been a major mix up with parts at the warehouses and support and Eagle have had no way of physically verifying that we’re receiving the right ones.
Got the new parts in.
Top cover is from April. Bottom cover is from October.
So I once again got an older cover than my previous one.
I’ve accepted it. This is my life now.
Guys I’m gonna loose it.

That’s basically the same date as my latest replacement. I’ve been keeping a close eye on it. So far, so good…
I guess if…okay, when it cracks, I’ll request a new one. I’ll embrace singing in the padded room with you. My collection isn’t to the level of yours, but it’s getting there.
Just to recap:
Batch 0 gray - entire machine replaced.
Batch 3 (I think it was 3) sage - entire machine replaced once, top cover replaced once, bottom cover replaced twice.
So far, the latest top and bottom cover for the sage unit haven’t re-cracked, but it hasn’t been that long. The replacement Gray unit hasn’t cracked again either, but that machine sits on a stand in tablet mode virtually all the time. So it’s never really getting handled or opened/closed.
Once in a while, the frustration over this issue will almost make me want to give up on the FW 12, say it’s not worth it, and move on. But then I remember that the cracking issue has technically never stopped me from just using the machines. And both are perfectly fulfilling the use case I have them in. I’ve used the sage model virtually every day since I got it. So I’m still technically happy with them. They are serving their intended purposes for me better than any alternative could. But it’s still a lot tougher than I want it to be to recommend one of these machines to the average person.
For me the real issue is that I buy Framework for the longevity. Mine doesn’t sit on a stand so Seeing cracks extend to multiple inches over time makes me wonder how long I get to use it before I open it and a hinge rips off.
Covers cost $50 each and that just doesn’t sit right with me. I want more than a year or two out of my case. I want 5+ years at least before ever worrying. Right now it’s sketchy after several months.
We can play patty cake. <3
