Ubuntu Cinnamon supported?

Just bought the 13 laptop AMD. Now I really want to use Linux Mint, but I saw it’s not officially supported. I would prefer that things work out of the box as much as possible, so now I’m considering Ubuntu instead. The Cinnamon flavour of Ubuntu seems like a good compromise. Is Ubuntu Cinnamon supported, or really only Ubuntu GNOME?

It’ll likely work fine. Linux Mint not being officially supported is probably mostly because the kernel version it ships with by default is somewhat outdated.

You can also check out the Fedora Cinnamon spin. Fedora is officially supported on all Framework models (iirc) and releases kernel updates shortly after upstream.

Hello, laurens8:

I have tried Cinnamon on a USB-C live thumbdrive. It ran just fine for the limited time I was testing different Linux Live drives to help decide which flavor to install permanently.

Thanks for the response! So I’m curious, which distro did you end up choosing and how do you like it so far?

laurens8:

I am newish to Linux. I mostly run Windows or Chromebook. With this in mind, I chose to dual boot Windows 11 Pro and Zorin Core v17.1 linux. Zorin is an easy transition linux distro that looks really great, more Windows like, and has worked flawless so far for me. I don’t recall which flavors of Linux live I ran off a thumbdrive before I decided on Zorin but it was at least seven with Cinnamon being one.

I used Ventoy for multi-live platform that I only have to copy Linux install ISO directly on a folder on the thumb drive. I then get a choice menu when I boot to pick from the number of ISO I copied over.
