Unable to boot due to esoteric error

So what had happened was that I was trying to get an AppImage application to run that required fuse2. I installed libfuse2 (I think it also prompted me to autoremove some things) and now I can’t get the system to boot.

It gets as far as asking me to enter the password to decrypt the drive and then after a second, I see the following:

I’ve been googling around about what I see and while some people have referenced it, they all seem to be able to actually complete the boot process.

I would be about to wipe the thing and start over, but there’s something important to me on the desktop.

Thank you in advance.

Which Linux distro are you using?
Ubuntu 24

Which kernel are you using?
I don’t know

Which BIOS version are you using?
JFP30.03.03

Which Framework Laptop 13 model are you using? AMD Ryzen™ 7040 Series

Have you tried switching ttys (Ctl-Alt-F1 etc)? The last 4 messages in your pic hint at GPU problems. It’s possible that the system is up and running but the DE hasn’t started.

If no one comes along with a solution to the underlying issue (I’m afraid I don’t have one) you could boot a live distro and use that to copy the important stuff somewhere safe.

Interesting point about the TTYs. I tried it and it didn’t seem to do anything.

Also per your suggestion, I was able to pull the important stuff off. So I’m open to risky experimentation, if that’s what it takes.

Hi. That error is a problem with the amdgpu drivers in the Linux kernel.

Framework don’t write that bit of software.
The best hope for fixes to the amdgpu driver is by reporting the problems here:

AMD people read and fix bugs there.
