Uneven CPU thermals!

I received and applied the PTM today.

Big difference on average frequency and TDP ( including from first day I bought FW16, frequency was averaging 4.1-4.3GHz, I don’t remember the TDP ).

Before PTM, I was getting 31-37W TDP with frequency 3.6-3.8GHz and now seeing 53-55W ( closer to 54 TDP sustained ), and frequency 4.3-4.4GHz ( closer to 4.3GHz )

During small work loads ( tasks that take small time to complete but fully utilize the processor ) I’m now seeing the processor boost between 5.0-5.1GHz ( closer to 5.0GHz on average ) before it even eventually drops it to the 4.3-4.4GHz range

The temperatures are still uneven but all the cores are closer together and noticed also that the 3 cores ( this is before the PTM application ), it’s the same 3 cores now ( after PTM application ) that seem to be higher than the other 5 cores. The temperatures 90.8-97.8 degree’s celcius, never seen it go to 100 since PTM, my guess is I wasn’t as lucky on the processor lottery?

This is the first time I’ve worked with thermal liquid metal and will be the last. I found the cleaning experience not pleasant. Took me about 2.5~ hours to clean and was mostly cleaning the heat sink in that time. The processor was actually quite quick and easy ( 20 minutes and most of that was checking for any remaining bits thermal liquid metal.

I used a heat gun ( purchased today ) on the heat sink only. The setting I used was up to 450 degree’s celcius but doing it for short periods of time. My heat gun has 3 settings, 50, 450 and 600 degree’s celcius.

IF YOUR USING A HEAT GUN, REMOVE THE SCREWS AND PLASTIC PARTS ( capture screws I think they’re called ) AROUND THE HEAT SINK BEFORE HEATING OTHERWISE YOU’LL MELT THE PLASTICS PARTS THAT HOLD THE SCREWS IN PLACE

Also used Noctua NA-SCW1/NA-CW1 wipes on heat sink and processor ( ONLY ON THE PROCESSOR ). Be careful of the lint
