I have a Framework 16 AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS w/ Radeon 780M. I love it so much. Although when im just using docs and chrome i feel the battery isn’t that good. I was thinking of undervolting but it doesn’t work as long as im concerned and i was wandering if using Unviersal x86 Tuning Utility to reduce the powerconsumption of the laptop as a whole. Is it a good idea? Thanks a lot first time posting and i’ve been with the laptop for a year now.
It can give you some control, but note the 7840 isn’t unlocked for voltage controls.
The Ryzen 9 is I think and would allow undervolting. For the 7 the tuning ability is limited to just TDP and temperature limits. It’s more useful to use HWinfo to monitor power draw at idle and try to fine-tune windows and background tasks to get the lowest battery drain possible (battery charge/discharge rate is a metric you can have HWinfo show on the taskbar).
At power saving and with most background tasks/windows processes off, I run around 12-13 ishW discharge. Sometimes it hops lower but generally I can’t force the CPU to draw less than 8ishW. It’s not the best battery life, but at that rate with basic brower and office tasks, I get the 6-9 hrs TechPriest notes above.
