Vertical FW12 Setup

A friend printed it for me and it was working. Unfortunatly I broke my USB-C Dock before I could take a picture (hence no usb-c dock used in the picture)

Also my Vesa mount is not adjustable enough to put it on the same height.

Tolerances we’re not tight enough my friend said and that the different print orientations changes the aesthetics which might bother some people.

Unfortunate I had to mangle the part where the dock is plugged in because I had to glue it in place so that it wouldn’t come loose, and then it broke so I had to get it out again. I can still insert it now though and it works as intended.

The right side, where the hinge is rubs at the plastic a bit too much where as the other side is perfect (a bit of space in between, but not too loose, which is great).

Other than that, some of the cooling is covered up as well. Not sure if that would be a problem though.

I just assembled it yesterday and I am pretty happy with it nonetheless, thank you so much!

(I am happy to send some more pictures if you want me to).

Can I drop you a couple of bucks for making the design?

That looks beautiful. I’m glad to hear you like it. Also I can adjust the model for you if you want to reprint it:

  • Maybe I can get rid of the dock holder if you don’t have one anymore, make it cleaner
  • If you measure the distance you want to raise the mount, I can adjust the holes for you
  • Which parts are have too loose tolerances? I can tighten them up.
  • It seems like the laptop is slightly wedge shaped, I can open the right side up a bit if it’s squeezing too much
  • Maybe I can also add a grill to the right side as well, for cooling?

What do you think?

Thank you so much, I have a Ko-Fi if you’d like to support me. But I wouldn’t feel like I deserve it until I iron out those issues

  • I did get another dock and use a hot drill bit to make it fit. I think the dock holder is great, and keeping it this way I think is very valuable.
  • I don’t think you have to raise it, I managed to adjust my setup and it works now. I’ll send a couple of pictures shortly. I will also send some pictures where you see the tolerances, but as I said, I glued in the dock holder, because the hooks didn’t really hold it enough, there seemed to be too much room. Were the two big pieces are put together there is also a bit too much room.
  • Opening up one side might be good, I think it would be better if it wouldn’t rub against it
  • A grill on the side would be good, it does get a bit hot in there. Though not too much, I was monitoring the temps.

I’ll try and send some more pictures shortly, but I don’t plan on reprinting it any time soon since my friend wont be available to do it at the moment.

Maybe if I post my setup on reddit some more people will be interested though and then it might be good to have those fixes…

All right, finally some pictures:

and some of the tolerances. I don’t know how much of that is material choice or whatever though.

Hi sorry for the late update but I’ve updated the model on Printables. I only changed the large green piece so that’s all you’d have to reprint if you choose to use it. Thank you for the coffee as well!

Hope that fixes all the issue’s you’ve had with the mount and feel free to reach out if you need anything else.
