Website for tracking compatibility of 3rd party devices

Heyho,
I am currently looking for a useful side project.
When I researched for a charger that I can use with my Framework Laptop, I noticed that it is not very easy to find good information about what charger to use.
I had the idea that it might be helpful to have a website, that lists third party devices and how well they work with FW products. Of course this needs data, so some users would need to share their experience. The idea is to have a database in the end and a neat list that allows easy comparison.
I think the project shouldn’t be too complex, but I wanted to ask before whether that would be some desired project, or if something like this exists already, or if everybody says the forum is good enough for this.
Of course there are also other things that could be tracked, e.g.

  • Hard drives
  • Memory
  • Operating systems (especially Linux derivates)
  • Docking stations
  • Games (At least some, with FPS)
  • Maybe also just benchmarks as comparison

Do you have any opinions?

https://framewiki.net exists! If you have ideas about how to format and (more importantly) keep such a database up to date, you’re welcome to submit an proposal to framewiki/framewiki.net Rfcs · Discussions · GitHub.

Thank you very much! I’ll have a look there then. Glad that I asked

It is possible to test with QubesOS?

As far as chargers go, can’t you just look at the wattage and buy one made by a reputable brand?

The qubes hcl is a list of hardware tested with qubes os and how well it works.

In theory, yes. But in practice, I have two chargers - one from Intenso, one from Vuohoeg. Both have 4 ports, one supports 140W, and two support 100W.
Using the 140W port of the Intenso charger did not work well, the Laptop got quite warm, it started making noise and even the fans started to spin. After a BIOS update, at least the fans didn’t start anymore. 100W ports did not work at all.
With Vuohoeg, I have the same noises with 140W port (maybe that’s normal), but 100W ports work perfectly fine.
I also read through some discussions regarding chargers of Anker and UGreen, but I couldn’t find any answer that just said “yes this works perfect for me”. This is why I tried with Vuohoeg, as I have another no-name charger that works well with FW, but only supports 65W

That’s good to know. I just changed my preorder of the FW12 to include the charger, also because the FW charger is grounded. I know it’s a plastic shell and I probably don’t get tingled but still…
