Hey!
I’ve been dualbooting fedora 42 and windows on my AMD 7640u 13. I’ve noticed it becomes extraordinarily hot while running basic things. I was experiencing igpu temps upwards of 80 degrees (C) playing simple 2D games like Deltarune. The fans never stop running, even while doing simple things like discord + a youtube video, or google sheets… I decided something could be wrong with my install, so i reinstalled fedora and freshly installed deltarune as a benchmark and lo and behold.. 80 degrees again. On windows, It never reports above 60 degrees playing Deltarune, and rarely ever has fans spinning while doing any other regular computer things… is there a possible fix to this situation?
Two things I’d recommend right off of the bat: install auto-cpufreq and repaste with PTM 7950 (sheet or thermal paste; both work well). The former really helps tame the CPU when it doesn’t have to be in high performance mode, while the latter really helps out the laptop’s cooling capacity.
I do agree Linux runs hotter for some reason I cannot discern. (Less optimized for the hardware, maybe?)
