Hello. I am an Infrastructure Architect by profession. I’ve been using UNIX since the 1980’s and Linux since the 0.99 kernel days.
I am not a heavy (personal) laptop user, but I like to keep one on-hand. I like the idea of the serviceability of the Framework laptops and so I bought a 16. My primary Linux distro is Gentoo, but I have Fedora on my Framework. I’m old-school, so I still run X11 and CTWM as my desktop environment.
It’s been working just fine once I got X11 and CTWM configured the way I like it. The only problem I’ve had is with the latest kernel upgrade (as of 10/21/2024) which seems to not process any X11 input until the mouse moves. Stepping down to the previous kernel resolved the issue. I’m hoping that the next kernel will resolve the issue. If not, I may come back to the community/support for info on how I can debug the problem.
Hi, I’m a retired nerd having installed and worked with many flavours or Unix/Xenix/Linux since the early 80’s.
More recently my business was, and still is, a leading supplier and maintainer of large scale document management systems, although I’m only used occasionally for my Linux skills these days. It was amusing to see the reactions of Windows users when I used awk as a tool to handle large scale (tens of millions of documents) migrations into the new document management system. There are some things that are so natural to .n[iu]x systems that windows just can’t do (natively).
Anyway, I am very interested in the idea of sustainable technology that does not include in-built obsolescence.
Heyyo, I’m HardHat! I’m a cinematographer, photographer and general robot nerd for my robotics team. I also do machining and CAD stuff. I’m silly and like to talk about cool projects, if you have an idea for one hmu and I’d love to help!
I’m a student at the moment, I love computer engineering (even though it’s not what I plan to major in). I found framework while trying to find a modular and fixable laptop. There really isn’t anything like these frameworks. I don’t have one, but I would love to get a framework 16 for college, the only barrier for me is that they are pricey for the specs, and I currently have a Lenovo that will work fine for college. The new Microsoft Surface is pretty repairable, but still not the same as framework. I love the AMD chips, and the 85whr battery is pretty good too. There appear to still be some small problems, but all in all framework seems to be good about resolving them.
Looking forward to see further innovations with these laptops, maybe even with the new AMD Ryzen AI chips.
Been watching Framework grow as a company ever since they started. I’m happy to announce that I just received my first Framework 13 laptop. And a few hours into the setup I’m very happy with it so far. The attention to detail in the setup of the laptop and the wealth of knowledge online is very refreshing. Thank you Framework team! Looking forward to many years of working with my Framework 13 laptop.

Got bored of 2h autonomy on razer blade that gets me to play doom against dameon NVIDIA processes on fedora just to get some more minutes.
Modular lightweight laptop ? Count me in!
It follows me almost anywhere, already tried windows dual boot fedora but I don’t really use Windows outside gaming and it’s not a priority.
I don’t use it extensively, because I have a job, but I mostly type or spin some virtual server and with such lightweight usage I charge it every couple of days on average. Which is a mind-blowing upgrade for me!
To be able to charge it with the same port of the phone is great and I can plug it anywhere!
freshly new to framework community.
Have been interested by framework prject for so long, and finally got the chance to get one ( FW13 7640U running with ubuntu 24.10)
