Framework Community Forums - Feedback and Updates Thread

Happy greetings!

As we have previously done on our other two community platforms (Subreddit and Discord server), we have decided to create a feedback thread in our community forums. We are looking for any and all feedback about the forums, from categories to tags, forum rules to navigation, megathreads to announcements, accessibility requests to templates. We want you to share any feedback that you think would improve the overall experience of our forums.

Just to be clear, this is not a thread for product, website, support, or any other related feedback. This is solely for the forums. If you have any ideas, suggestions, or anything forum-related that you would like to share, please post them in this thread.

We will keep this thread open and monitor it daily, and we will try to implement the feedback we receive here. Whenever we have an update, I will share it here so you can provide your feedback on the updates as well.

Most recent updates:

  • We have updated the colors for categories and subcategories in our forums. Previously, we were using the same colors for different subcategories; now we have unique colors for each, making it easier for community members to identify the subcategories for each thread.
  • We have also created four new megathreads under the Creators&Developers subcategories. We had many threads with great ideas for community developers but with little or no progress. We put these ideas together to reduce redundancy and create places for developers to borrow ideas from.
  • We have created the Community Market category for the second hand sales.
  • Most recently, we have added 20 new tags to our Framework Laptop 13 - Linux and Framework Laptop 16 - Linux subcategories, focusing on Linux distros. We hope this change will help community members filter issues specific to their distros and increase visibility for common issues.

We are planning more updates for our forums, including bringing more tags under each category and subcategory, creating new guides for new members of our community, and other changes to improve communication and overall experience.

Please share any feedback, suggestions, or comments, and thank you for being a valuable member of our community!

  1. Is there detail on what the different users can and cannot do and what use is required to get to each status . .
    New User . . .
    Basic . . .
    Regular . . .
    etc.

  2. Also on the Fairphone forum they have Intro tests on how to use things like the menu option etc.

Thanks

@Destroya can correct me if this is wrong, because itā€™s old information, but:

As for the second, thatā€™s what everyoneā€™s friend @discobot is for, but there were a few reports that discobot is broken.

Youā€™ve disabled me in your preferences. You need to allow new user onboarding tips to interact with me.

LOL, that explains it, thanks discobot, Iā€™ll chat about this internally with Destroya.

Discourse levels can be adapted by the forum admin

Thatā€™s what the Discourse article says, we havenā€™t updated much about the trust levels in the past, but we should be able to make adjustments if the current settings are causing any issues. What is the problem we are trying to solve here? :eyes:

None I just didnā€™t read the Discourse standard as on the Fairphone one it wasnā€™t the default, so didnā€™t want to take it for granted. But if you are using the standard thatā€™s fine, but is there a link to on the forum for new users to get easy access?

Thanks.

EDIT: I donā€™t remember seeing the following

How do users learn about the trust system?

Every new user gets a welcome PM mentioning the trust system and linking to this blog post, explaining that new users may be temporarily limited for safety reasons. They are also invited to start an optional interactive training conversation with discobot.

Understanding Discourse Trust Levels

Iā€™m not sure if this is discobot being broken or me failing to find something, but Iā€™ve tried and failed to figure out how to obtained the ā€œCertifiedā€ badge for ā€œCompleted our new user tutorialā€.

I obtained the ā€œLicensedā€ badge for ā€œCompleted our advanced user tutorialā€ and that involved interacting with discobot to do the advanced tutorial. I have tried and failed to get discobot to start the new user tutorial.

Iā€™m just trying to collect badges and the one I am struggling with is the one that should be easiest (new user tutorial). Ironic.

Is this the place to (repeat) reports of forum bugs? As someone who occasionally posts examples of linux CLI input and output Iā€™ve encountered an infuriating bug I eventually traced to particular sequences of characters. I know other contributors have been tripped up by this too.

If this is the place, let us know and Iā€™ll unearth a couple of examples that were explored elsewhere in the side-tracks of threads that had nothing to do with the bug.

Discobot seems alive but not well . Didnā€™t recognise the bookmark and No ā€¦

it might be better to focus on the feedback and suggestion instead of bugs and troubleshooting.

maybe we can create a bug/technical issues thread or you can DM us.

Iā€™ll take a look at what we can do for the Discobot, it might be a good addition to the forums and might be helpful for the new users, Iā€™d like to thank everyone for sharing feedback about that. Iā€™ll share here if/when we have updates about discobot.

Iā€™d love to see more custom titles! I love being a regular, and I was so excited for the Framework Fireworks, so it would be cool to see more things like those to achieve!

Just noticed that passkey support is not available here.

Noticed because few other discourse forums have enabled passkeys for login.

I honestly love custom titles, it gives the good old forums energy. but we should be creative with the titles, Iā€™m open for suggestions!

Iā€™ll check that with our engineers, thanks!

The market category.

Someone noted that it is for those who want to sell not a place to ask.
