Framework Community Forums - Feedback and Updates Thread

Happy greetings!

As we have previously done on our other two community platforms (Subreddit and Discord server), we have decided to create a feedback thread in our community forums. We are looking for any and all feedback about the forums, from categories to tags, forum rules to navigation, megathreads to announcements, accessibility requests to templates. We want you to share any feedback that you think would improve the overall experience of our forums.

Just to be clear, this is not a thread for product, website, support, or any other related feedback. This is solely for the forums. If you have any ideas, suggestions, or anything forum-related that you would like to share, please post them in this thread.

We will keep this thread open and monitor it daily, and we will try to implement the feedback we receive here. Whenever we have an update, I will share it here so you can provide your feedback on the updates as well.

Most recent updates:

  • We have updated the colors for categories and subcategories in our forums. Previously, we were using the same colors for different subcategories; now we have unique colors for each, making it easier for community members to identify the subcategories for each thread.
  • We have also created four new megathreads under the Creators&Developers subcategories. We had many threads with great ideas for community developers but with little or no progress. We put these ideas together to reduce redundancy and create places for developers to borrow ideas from.
  • We have created the Community Market category for the second hand sales.
  • Most recently, we have added 20 new tags to our Framework Laptop 13 - Linux and Framework Laptop 16 - Linux subcategories, focusing on Linux distros. We hope this change will help community members filter issues specific to their distros and increase visibility for common issues.

We are planning more updates for our forums, including bringing more tags under each category and subcategory, creating new guides for new members of our community, and other changes to improve communication and overall experience.

Please share any feedback, suggestions, or comments, and thank you for being a valuable member of our community!

@Destroya can correct me if this is wrong, because it’s old information, but:

As for the second, that’s what everyone’s friend @discobot is for, but there were a few reports that discobot is broken.

You’ve disabled me in your preferences. You need to allow new user onboarding tips to interact with me.

LOL, that explains it, thanks discobot, I’ll chat about this internally with Destroya.

That’s what the Discourse article says, we haven’t updated much about the trust levels in the past, but we should be able to make adjustments if the current settings are causing any issues. What is the problem we are trying to solve here? :eyes:

I’m not sure if this is discobot being broken or me failing to find something, but I’ve tried and failed to figure out how to obtained the “Certified” badge for “Completed our new user tutorial”.

I obtained the “Licensed” badge for “Completed our advanced user tutorial” and that involved interacting with discobot to do the advanced tutorial. I have tried and failed to get discobot to start the new user tutorial.

I’m just trying to collect badges and the one I am struggling with is the one that should be easiest (new user tutorial). Ironic.

Is this the place to (repeat) reports of forum bugs? As someone who occasionally posts examples of linux CLI input and output I’ve encountered an infuriating bug I eventually traced to particular sequences of characters. I know other contributors have been tripped up by this too.

If this is the place, let us know and I’ll unearth a couple of examples that were explored elsewhere in the side-tracks of threads that had nothing to do with the bug.

it might be better to focus on the feedback and suggestion instead of bugs and troubleshooting.

maybe we can create a bug/technical issues thread or you can DM us.

I’ll take a look at what we can do for the Discobot, it might be a good addition to the forums and might be helpful for the new users, I’d like to thank everyone for sharing feedback about that. I’ll share here if/when we have updates about discobot.

I’d love to see more custom titles! I love being a regular, and I was so excited for the Framework Fireworks, so it would be cool to see more things like those to achieve!

Just noticed that passkey support is not available here.

Noticed because few other discourse forums have enabled passkeys for login.

I honestly love custom titles, it gives the good old forums energy. but we should be creative with the titles, I’m open for suggestions!

I’ll check that with our engineers, thanks!

Yes, this is true, I deleted that post earlier. We might consider creating a “buyer” subcategory in the future, as of now, the Community market is only open for the “seller” posts.

Right now we don’t have a lot of movement in the second hand market, people don’t want to sell their laptops or the parts yet. We might have more movement when people start upgrading their laptops in the future and then we can consider creating subcategories (since it would be more balanced)

A post was merged into an existing topic: Future upgrades and possibly a trade in program?

We have introduced the Linux Subcategory Distro tags last week and all new threads are created with the correct Distro tags, however we have a backlog of old threads created with “linux” tag or no tags at all. Moderation team is working tirelessly to add the Distro tags manually, when we are done, it will be possible filter all Linux threads based on the Distros.

If you have create a thread under Framework Laptop 13 - Linux or Framework Laptop 16 - Linux subcategories in the past, please find your thread and update your tags manually.

If we have added tags to your thread but we made a mistake, please reach out to either me or one of the moderators so we can fix this.

Thanks for your cooperation!

I suggest that Framework set up Discorse’s topic template feature on this community forum to guide users and prevent users from creating new threads with duplicated topics. Below are my past comments about this topic.

This is a great suggestion, I think we should definitely use this for the Community Support and Linux subcategories.

Quick update: this feature was already on for the Community Support category and I’ve adjusted the template a bit, also included the template for the Community Market category. next step would be adding templates for the Linux subcategories, thank you for this suggestion!
