Wi-Fi 7 support on AMD

Has anyone ever figured out how to get Bluetooth Audio of any kind working with a Qualcomm QCNCM865 on Windows 11?
The Wi-Fi works great, but Bluetooth audio just connects but passes only dead silence through.
Useless.

I found the answer right here: FW16: Wifi 7 (Qualcomm QCNCM865) on Win11 - including link to driver - #15 by takaides

Disable AMD BT Audio Device under Sound, video, and game controllers in Device Manager.

Just wanted to share my exp with MT7925 module. Picked one up recently and it’s working great on my setup – haven’t run into any of the issues you guys are mentioning. I’m constantly getting around 2Gbps or higher in my place (clean house), so if you’re seeing 500-1Gbps, that seems a bit low. 160MHz is more than enough for my needs.

One thing to keep in mind: 6GHz is really dependent on your country/regulatory setting. You might want to double check your channel plan and make sure everything’s set up correctly for your region. Also according to mainline tech forums, MLO’s full support starts with 6.12 and up. It won’t work properly if your kernel is older.

Btw, I can see MT7925 listed in Wi-Fi alliance Product Finder page. Does this mean it has already been certified?

It’s definitely certified or it wouldn’t be for sale. I’ve had no issues with the latest kernel updates. It’s running great. 6GHz is also highly sensitive to anything blocking it’s path. My router sits behind a large TV so that’s probably slowing it down. 1Gb over wifi is awesome enough.

Sounds great.

A quick heads up just in case - you may check whether your router has 2.5G or 10G LAN ports, to exam higher data rates. I’ve noticed some of the cheaper Wi-Fi 7 routers only come with 1Gbps LAN ports. If you’re running a speed test with wired PC, you’ll be limited to 1Gbps or less.

Funny, wifi6 is already bottlenecked by 1Gbit pretty hard. Those routers gotta be pretty cheap to justify that.

Probably going to be a while till my 50$ wifi6 openwrt aps get replaced, openwrt capable wifi7 hw is still pretty expensive.

Router has two 10gig ports. However don’t own anything new enough that can accept 10Gb in  However I don’t doubt that it’s able to at least reach WiFi 7 speeds.

I don’t have a framework laptop yet, but my current laptop, that I purchased recently came with a Mediatek 7927 Wi-Fi 7 card which doesn’t work on any Linux Distro.

What is the best laptop card to get for AMD motherboards and CPUs? Also where is the best place to get it?

If you don’t need wifi7, an intel ax210 is hard to beat. You can get those for around 20$ from a lot of places.

The RZ717 / Mediatek MT7925 support 160MHz bandwidth and has Linux support.

The RZ738 / Mediatek MT7927 support 320MHz bandwidth, but drivers seem to continue holding it back.

That said the Mediatek hardware seems just as capable based on some people’s excellent experiences. But the drivers seem they still need a lot of work considering how many people still have poor experiences. Especially on Linux, but also on Windows.

That said, personally I’m much more looking forward to Bluetooth LE Audio hardware support for simultaneous stereo mic and stereo headphones. Windows added software support about a year ago, but I’ve yet to find a headphone + computer which actually do it together. I think the MT7925 and MT7927 have the hardware for it, but the drivers aren’t there yet. And I don’t think any headphones or earbuds support it yet either.

The MT7927 (RZ738) works fine on Windows, so hopefully Linux should be able to catch up fairly soon.

The RZ717/RZ738 Bluetooth driver 1.1045.0.563 (with .sys file 1.1045.0.563) seems to mess up Bluetooth for me causing high CPU usage in Phone Link. So I’m back on the drivers numbered 25.x.
