Running Debian Trixie/Testing.
I bought a RT-BE96U recently (tri-band, 320mHz, 4x4, because future-proofing) and was looking for a good Linux-compatible M.2 wifi 7 chipset. Looking around, I found…
-
Intel’s BE200 is a no-go because of compatibility issues with AMD
-
MediaTek’s MT7925 (tri-band, 160mHz, 2x2) which has an in-kernel driver
-
The MT7927 is the 7925 with 320mHz support, but lacks a driver still
-
There’s the MT7996 (tri-band, 320mHz, 4x4) which has an in-kernel driver, but I can’t find anything using it yet
-
There’s the Qualcomm QCNCM865 (tri-band, 320mHz, 2x2) as well, but I don’t have experience with Qualcomm chipsets and can’t find any others. The ath12k driver is supposed to support it, kinda, sorta, your millage may vary from what I’ve seen
-
I’m not even going to look at Realtek because I do have experience with theirs…
Would it be best to wait and see what comes out later that uses the MT7996, simply grab a MT7925, try my luck with a QCNCM865, or is there a chipset I’ve overlooked or didn’t find?
