How often should you replace cables? I have mine for at least 3 years and this is the first time I have noticed this on a new computer. I had to reboot my machine last time to get my ethernet connection back up and running.
When they break (or are too outdated for what you want to run over them). How fast they break is highly dependent on use and quality of the cable.
That may not be a cable issue.
Right you are, I did get a new ethernet gigabit switch because my old one was acting somewhat flaky on my new Framework Desktop computer. The random connectivity drops have improved but I think it’s a software issue with Windows 11 drivers.
I had to Reset my network settings last night to see if this helps. Simply disabling and reenabling the connection works too, but there have been times when rebooting the whole machine is the only option.
On my old DELL computer, I used to reboot once a month or something. Now I am doing this pretty much everyday.
yep, i’ve been noticing this also. ethernet has been dropping out recently, probably the last couple weeks. disabling and re-enabling the interface has worked so far, but annoying. tried turning off “allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” in device manager but no luck yet.
Try downloading the ethernet drivers from Realtek directly. The Windows default drivers are very old in comparison. It helped my setup a lot, but eventually I had to just replace the cable and now things work as well as you can expect.
