Windows Dynamic Refresh Rate not supported on 2.8k Display?

This issue has been fixed with the latest official drivers from AMD.

Which version did you install? In other threads, I’ve seen people having issues with black screens and driver crashes.

Currently swings and roundabouts. 24.10.1 enables dynamic refresh rate but breaks my Bluetooth audio. Also had a few games crash to desktop and BSOD since reinstalling. It’s better for productivity stuff as the battery does seem to last longer.

Seems to be a pretty drastic improvement in battery life since I installed this 24.10.1 driver on 10/19. I guess I’ve been lucky with no BSODs (not a single one since 3.05 BIOS was put out) but I haven’t done much gaming on it with the new drivers.

i find a mismatch between windows settings and amd software:

AMD software version: 23.40.18.02
Windows version: 10.0.26100 Build 26100

You need to install the latest 24.10.1 drivers directly from AMD. Framework has not released a compatible driver in their bundle yet.

FYI, I confirm VRR 30Hz to 120Hz (or 60Hz) is working very good on Linux Wayland (sway)

Hi @Kieran_Levin

Do we have an estimate/update on the official Framework drivers for VRR?

24.10.1 broke my Bluetooth audio, and one of the 3.5mm black rings broke my backup plan (AirFly Pro) after 1 month of use. Definitely noticed an improved battery life with the 24.10.1.

We got new drivers from AMD, however they have issues with >=64Gigs of installed RAM on windows 24H2 which we debugging with AMD.

Thanks for clarifying! Looking forward to a release when sorted/working.

Great to see that the 780M supports Dynamic Refresh Rate on the Framework laptop. I have the ASUS G14 2024 model that also uses a 2.8K Display with the 780M iGPU but no option to enable DRR. Any idea how I could request or get this working on the ASUS G14?

This is the Framework community forums that is dedicated to discussions around the Framework Laptops. It’s best if you seek assistance on an Asus forum for help regarding your G14.

Thanks, haven’t got any luck with ASUS forums. Since this community managed to find a solution, was hoping I could get some support from here. But I get what you mean. BTW is there any platform or forum where such issues can be directly highlighted to AMD? This seems to be a problem with the iGPU drivers

AMD has their own forums so you can try there but there’s no guarantee. Additionally, the fixes being discussed here are specific to the 2.8K panel model used by Framework so it’s unlikely what’s being discussed here can help you. This is because the specific panel needs to be whitelisted by AMD to support VRR.

Any updates on this driver? Is it safe to download the AMD official driver if the Framework driver has not been certified yet? No negative performance on glitches and/or battery life reported?

I’ve installed the latest AMD drivers, and overall, they appear to be functioning well. Definitely solved my Bluetooth audio issues. However, I’m experiencing issues with the Dynamic Refresh Rate feature. It seems to be limiting the refresh rate to ?60hz, as disabling it results in a noticeably snappier performance. I don’t know if this is a Windows 11 issue.

Yeah a lot of apps don’t support dynamic refresh rate yet, and get auto locked to 60 Hz. I think Chrome and electron apps are in this bucket. I use Edge tho and it works fine
