I’ve had frequent crashes when using Blender for graphics work. I’m suspecting other software and games will be affected by this and have not yet found a fix.
I’ve been trying to trouble shoot the issue and need help. Hopefully someone can guide me to get more info on this issue.
System Info
- OS = KDE Neon 6.2
- Framework 13 AMD 7840U
Description of the Issue
Eventually after running the software for 10-20 minutes, the screen will freeze, turn black and then recover. Blender will close and I get notifications for:
- Xwayland has crashed
- Kwin reset: Desktop effects were restarted due to a graphics reset
I’ve looked online for similar issues and primarily found similar issues caused by Nvidia drivers, Vulcan drivers or reaching the VRAM limit.
Neither of these issues applies to this because I’m using AMD, OpenGL for Blender, and also went to the BIOS to set the framework to Gaming mode to make use of the entire 4GB of VRAM. But the VRAM limit is never reached.
A workaround that almost seems to work is to set the Power Profile of KDE to ‘Balanced’ or lower instead of ‘Performance’. But this sometimes just delays the eventual crash.
EDIT: I tried it on X11 too and am getting the same crashes and reset of Kwin.
When running Blender from the terminal, the only additional context I get is:
amdgpu: The CS has been rejected (-125).
