I finally went through the hassle of getting my WD drivers updated. The basic idea is I have a USB stick and want to get a working copy of windows on it just long enough to run the firmware update. Older SN850 firmware caused problems, including not being detected at boot. If Windows can see it, it’s an indication that there’s nothing wrong with the port or the drive, and you can get in and update the firmware at the same time.
