AMD Batch 4 Guild

After updating the firmware via usb-stick now running Debian Bookworm with kernel 6.5 from backports. KDE on Wayland runs smooth, scaling also works. In the process i switched to lightdm instead of sddm, but maybe sddm will also work now (did not test).

Hm, I wonder if each ā€œcharge batchā€ alternates US/non US. It seems UK/AU folks were charged today, US yesterday, and some in Europe last week

I managed to pick them up from school. But they might have had to wait for a BIOS update to concludeā€¦

I was so excited to receive my laptop today a day early!

Then when I was connecting the input cover and I was on step 9 the main board released magic smoke in the area above the input cover connector :sob:

Oh well, support ticket open. Hopefully whatever happened didnā€™t take my RAM or SSD with it.

Oh no! What did you do?

Same thing happened to me - and others (separate post here).

Note that you can boot and test the otherwise assembled laptop even without the input cover. You can connect and external keyboard and mouse through USB and then boot using the tiny power button directly on the mainboard. You might have to disconnect the charger and unplug and replug the battery first.

I have my framework completely set up this way. Now I am waiting for a response from support about a replacement input cover

Just got my payment complete email last night, now I refresh email waiting for shipping.

Follow up question, has anyone received a laptop with the 3.03 bios installed as stock, I am out of town for a few weeks and will need to remote hands (use my brother to) setup and test the laptop. Id like to test everything with Linux if possible but I would not want to do a remote bios upgrade, so maybe windows till I get my paws on it.

Any specific pitfalls/common issues I should ask him to lookout for would be nice to know.

Ordered a batch 4 R5 7640u laptop around June 27.
Got the preparation email on the 28th of October.
Got charged 4am today (Australian time).
Got the shipping email 6pm today.
Interested to see how shipping times differ from country to country, it seems to ship from Taiwan so hopefully not long to get to Australia.

I really feel for those with major hardware issues, like burnt connectors and leaks in the magic smoke containment. I hope all the issues get resolved quickly. It seems like there may be some kind of QC issue with the input cover and/or its ribbon cable. Several burnt connectors, some folks with touchpad whoā€™s movement is reverse, at least one person with several key functions swapped. Weird stuff.

Either way, if thereā€™s a larger issue, I hope it gets sorted quickly for the sake of Frameworkā€™s customers and Framework itself.

Iā€™m probably jinxing myself, but in early goings (18 hours) so far no issues w/ the AMD 13" I received yesterday. I post this only to give hope that you can receive a solid unit. Firm, responsive touchpad, and all the hardware seems to be functioning as youā€™d expect.

I do wish the UEFI interface gave you a bit more control, and supported mouse control. Brings me back to the old BIOS days of keyboards only.

Iā€™m dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora 39, and so far so good. My camera isnā€™t working properly under Fedora, but thatā€™s clearly a Fedora/Linux issue, since itā€™s fine under Win 11. Iā€™ve yet to dig in to sort that out. Otherwise, smooth sailing.
