AMD R5 Framework laptop black screen all along, no boot

Hello everyone,

so I received a Framework 13 Laptop with AMD Ryzen 5 CPU.

I ordered the DIY model which is totally fine and also bought:

Crucial RAM 32GB Kit (2x16GB) DDR5 5200MHz (or 4800MHz) CT2K16G52C42S5
WD_BLACK SN770 NVMe SSD 1 TB

I installed the components stated like in the manual and assembled the keyboard.

I plugged in a Macbook Air M1 charger (which I guess is fine?) and startet the computer, but the screen kept being black and never turned on.

From a quick google search I read that some people waited 15 minutes and I did that. In the beginning the led turns green, orange, blue (if I remember correctly) but the screen never shows an image.
I plugged external display into the USB-c and also the HDMI, but nothing.

Is there any troubleshooting I still can do or should I return the computer?

Kind regards, Max

Getting the obvious out of the way: is the RAM seated properly? Might be worth giving it a re-seat

As for the diagnostic lights, here’s a guide to help figure out what it is

It snapped into place.

Right side of the modul hat to be flipped, otherwise it wouldn’t fit with the notch. (Only one side of the RAM is loaded with dies, locked kind a weird but only way it worked; update: I watched youtube video of Matthew Moniz and he also “flipped” the left side of the RAM during installtion, so I guess it is installed the correct way)

P.s. Is the 5200Mhz RAM not working with AMD still a thing? Because maybe this could be the reason?

Yes, there are reports of this.

In fact there does not seem to be a single report of anyone booting successfully with 5200MHz RAM.

Okay, then I’ll order a kit with 5600Mhz… hope this helps.
