An EPR cable is needed for voltage >20V and/or current >3A. So 20V 5A needs an EPR cable.

Some of those other protocols are only applicable to chargers with USB-A outputs, though devices that have USB-C connectors that are designed to allow charging from USB-A chargers via leads that are USB-A at the charger end and USB-C at the other, may, in a few cases, understand them (typically small devices, phones etc).

Correct. I was muddling up the e-marker for 5A with the e-marker for EPR.
Maybe I’ll delete that part of my original comment.
