Audio not working--will replacing the audio board help?

A few months ago, my audio stopped working properly: any time I’m using the built-in mic or plugging in a headset in the jack input, there is a very loud buzz and no sound (eg. my voice) is picked up by the mic. Everything works fine with bluetooth headsets or USB-C headsets.

I thought it may be a software issue (I’m on Linux Fedora 43) but I just factory reset my computer and nothing changed. So I’m now leaning toward a hardware issue. My only concern is that the buzz happens both when I use the built-in mic and when I plug a mic into the 3.5mm jack; does the audio board control both of those? Does it sound like replacing the audio board will fix the issue?

Thank you in advance :folded_hands::folded_hands::folded_hands::folded_hands:

Oh, that’s not great.
I’d suggest you try unplugging your audio board ribbon cable & checking if that removes the buzz while using the built-in mic.

The “audio board” is rather poorly named. It only hosts the audio jack, some related passive components I think, and the lid sensor. The audio DAC or chip that processes audio for the jack, and also I believe for the built-in mic, is not located on that little daughter board. Rather it’s on the mainboard.

The only other thing to try would be unplugging your webcam cable, and check if that fixes the buzz when using the 3.5mm jack. Perhaps there is a problem on that side instead, which is causing the buzz.
