August/Batch2 Delivery thread

I ordered May 20th, got my card charged on Friday and got the email saying it’d ship in 1-2 business days…still no shipping info though, so hopefully I get it today.

Does your order status page say anything different? Some never got the ship email or got it late, while the website had more accurate information.

Nope, order page just says pre-order confirmed. I’m just sitting here refreshing my email every 10 minutes like a teenage girl waiting for a boy to text back…

@lthemick i’m in the same boat except i ordered 7/28 – radio silence. Really starting to think theres a problem somewhere.

@DominicBauers - still doesn’t compare to the Librem 14 fiasco, but I am not going to lie, I am having flashbacks ha.

It would be nice to see a new blog post, or an update to something. Maybe stats on how many have shipped vs how many left?

So… while we’re waiting… what was the ‘Librem 14 fiasco’?

I ordered the 1165G7, and placed it May 20th and still haven’t gotten any shipping info, and still show as pre-order confirmed only.

Right, I thought the same, but apparently not. I got the email that my shipping notification was 1-2 days away on Friday. I’m trying not to be impatient…but I’m really excited. My old laptop’s battery is dead dead, so it’ll be nice to have something truly portable again.

@CraigO I’m not the OP, but after some duckduckgo-ing, I found https://www.reddit.com/r/Purism/comments/my8u2l/psa_librem_14_units_appear_to_have_been_modified/ , which dives into a fiasco around the Librem 14 from 4 months ago. The long and short of it was that there were some extra capacitors on their boards that looked hastily soldered-on and nobody knew anything about. After some investigation, the next day they released an official story that there was an issue with voltage regulation after the PCBs were made.

I’m not sure if this was “the” Librem 14 fiasco, but it was a Librem 14 fiasco.

Preface: I absolutely love what Purism is trying to do, but I feel they bit off way more than they can chew. I suggest anybody interested in their struggles to read up on what’s happened with the Librem 14 (as well as the Librem 5) on Purism’s forums

A brief summary of the fiasco: Pre-order started in July 2020 with expected ship date of Oct 2020, but pre-orders didn’t actually ship until mid-May 2021. In fairness, Covid impacted Purism (at least that’s what we were told–I have no reason to believe otherwise because all industries were impacted). Many people on the forums agreed Purism could have handled things better with their communication, and, honestly, better planning despite the pandemic.

During that 8 month delay, there was poor communication, post production fixes that were less than ideal, refund snafus, and buggy ec firmware out the door. It was just a constant stream of unfortunate events.

Anecdotally, I think Framework’s rollout has been much better. However, the lack of any new information (blog posts, shipping stats, etc) in over a month is reminiscent to January 2021 for me. I’m, admittingly, just being impatient

I greatly want Framework, and Purism for that matter, to succeed as I believe in both company’s missions and values. We need alternatives to Big Tech and their planned obsolescence BS. Voting with our wallets seems the only way to support these types of initiatives, but I digress.

Thanks, Simon. I’m good with a fiasco. Certainly not a minor issue.

I did send an email since I was concerned, and was told I should receive my shipping notice within the next couple days. At that point we’ll be a week after I was told 1-2 days. Not the end of the world, but a bit frustrating, especially seeing so many people who ordered later already receiving theirs…

Order placed 7/30 for i7-1185G7 DIY, still saying Batch 2, pre-order confirmed, but not charged and no e-mails about shipment.

Would be helpful if everyone who posted about receiving e-mails says when they ordered and which model.

Order placed 7/27 for i7-1164G7 DIY, still Batch 2, no email/charge since the order was placed.

Though I did contact support to change my RAM config which was quick and easy

My order was an i7-1165G7 prebuilt on June 11. I have been charged and was told last Friday (8/20) that the order would ship in 1-2 days. I assume that means the order shipped yesterday at the latest, and since I understand these orders are shipping from the east coast it’ll arrive by tomorrow at the earliest or Monday at the latest.

Either way, it would have been nice to be given a tracking number or even an email notification of the shipment. That’s under the assumption that the laptop has shipped on time, and it’s entirely possible that the shipment was delayed for some reason.

Much appreciated codenomad - I’m with you; I want that both outfits to succeed. I stopped tracking Purism when I realized our timelines weren’t aligned - hopefully, they’ve passed the turbulence stage.
