Bad fan Framework 13

Hi - I have an Intel 11 Framework 13 that has a fan going bad. Making lots of noise and sounds like bad bearings or something. It still spins but is just grindy sounding and loud.

I see that the Framework parts store sells new fan/heatsink units - but I only need a new fan. Can the fan itself be replaced? Anyone have specs/source for only the fan?

Sounds like foreign object. Try cleaning dust first. It’s possible to separate the fan, but framework doesn’t sell the fan without the heat sink. Since the circuit isn’t fried, it’s technically possible to replace the bearing by yourself

Yeah the first thing I did was to take the keyboard off and blow out the fan, it didn’t help.

I hate that I can’t replace the fan on its own it’s overkill to have to purchase the whole fan/heatsink assembly. Ugh.

Can you search for the fan model and buy it (or its bearing) from a third-party shop? Replacing heat sink just because of a faulty bearing is kind of wasteful

It probably only needs some lubrication. Peel back the sticker on the fan and it should expose the bearing. Put several drops of light oil (sewing machine oil or similar) on the bearing and let it soak in. Be careful you don’t put too much oil on it though. Then put the sticker back and reassemble into laptop.
