Note that it also tells you in the quick start guides. [Or non-DIY.] These guides are quite useful actually.
- Open the lid on your Framework Laptop and press the power button.
- Note that your first boot will take a while before the logo comes up on screen as the system does memory training. The more memory you’ve installed, the longer this could take (on the order of a minute or two with 64GB!)
Other crucial information in the guides includes this one (not quite as explicit in the DIY guide though):
The Framework Laptop ships in a mode where the battery is disabled until power is first plugged in, so you really do have to plug in power at this step!
IIRC, I’ve even seen reviewers slightly confused over this behavior in some YT vids… well… they ought to just RTFM, I guess ^^

As a follow up to the Framework 12th Gen I received in Batch 2, I purchased the Ethernet Expansion card for each of my Framework units. Hopefully the fulfillment will be a little faster.

The amount of time to wait is very dependent on the amount of RAM. As I had 64 GB of RAM, it was only a couple minutes.
I did see a heat issue when I played a game on Steam (via Linux) using the “High Performance” setting with the default graphics (set to High as well). After some adjustments, I was able to play the same game for 3 to 4 hours last night.

This thing plays CK3 well, CK2 excellently!
Also, after receiving mine today, it was only in the past few minutes I noticed a bend in my input cover, turns out a literal stray screw, tiny little thing, was stuck on one of the fastening magnets, causing a breach in the seal. Little bugger has now been removed, must be an extra-extra screw because there is no space for it anywhere!

I have not played that game before - I am adding it to my wish-list. I know you use a different operating system, but are there modes for the CPU (like Battery Life, Balanced, or High Performance)?
I was playing Cities: Skylines on Steam. It is a simulation game and I was zooming in and out of different parts of the cites. Unfortunately I was rebuilding a section of my cities for about 30 minutes before the unit powered off. I was assuming it was the throttling issue.

Runnin’ Ubuntu on this baby, it was the only installation media ready when the delivery man turned up. So far, I charged it up to 98% when I got it, battery is still running strong at 67% now, have kept it in Ubuntu’s “Balanced” option. Even after throwing in a few mins of CK3 to see how it runs.
I’m confident I could go a whole day of lectures back to back and not need to charge this thing, which is perfect for my use case.

Mine did as well. I remember reading somewhere that when you install fresh memory/storage it will take some time to validate on first boot. I just left it, went and go some coffee and when I got back had the “try or install Ubuntu” screen up.

If you don’t mind my asking, what was it about Fedora 36 that decided it for you? My experience to date is limited to Ubuntu.

I found it to be minimalist - clean, simple, stable. There’s pretty much just one intuitive way to do everything. Customization is there when I want it but I didn’t feel overwhelmed by many different ways to change the theme or color scheme for example.
I’ve mostly used Ubuntu, or some derivative, with Elementary being my favorite for its clean, simple consistent UI. The future of Elementary is uncertain and I just didn’t like Ubuntu Budgie. Framework is well supported in Fedora so I tried something new and I’m really pleased with it

My first impressions are really good. More than I’ve expected. It seems like everything is working just fine. Heat, battery etc. will be tested over a bigger time frame obviously. Only downside so far is that the display actually is a straight up mirror. It’s fine for light mode applications but once you get some darker colors in, you will see yourself. But that’s a minor downside for me and in worst case I’ll get a matte screen protector 
The inital boot up from pressing the power button to seeing the Framework logo took 37 seconds. Just leaving this here as some people talked about it.

So far I’m impressed too. It’s incredibly fast, keyboard and trackpad are great, everything is smooth. Fingerprint reader works great in Fedora.
The screen is very reflective. Mine has some slight damage, or possibly a defect and it’s been really difficult to get a picture to share with support. There’s a blue mark on the screen that’s only visible on dark backgrounds. I guess I’ll see how repairable these things are after all

And… It’s here! Ordered June 17, shipped on 8th of September, delivered today in the morning, September 13, 3 days earlier than estimated by FedEx.
Also got a bunch of fishing emails pretending that I missed the delivery roughly around the same time frame, so be careful with posting personal info like that. Luckily one of the days when “delivery failed”, I’ve been at home the whole day, so that was obviously a scam.

Hey there, I’m still waiting for a mail for my order of my 1260p framework DIY edition (ordered on July 18th) since I’m still on stage 2. The last update mail said they would pack out all orders by the end of last week and “ship units out as early as possible after that”, whatever that means. I really need my framework by the end of the month, how likely is that in your opinion? I live in Germany by the way.

Sorry to hear. I’m not sure of the answer to your question but I ordered a 1260p DIY almost a month before you (19th June) to the UK and I’m also still on stage 2. I think there are a couple of Dutch guys on here who ordered even earlier than I did who are still waiting too 
They did say in the latest update email that some of the order assemblies might “slip into” the following week after the national holiday in Taiwan (which was last week). Not sure what the exact definition of “slip into” would be lol but to me I would assume that means early the following week. Since it’s Wednesday tomorrow it will be a bit disappointing if those of us still waiting don’t hear something by then.
