Just picked up my package, yay!
As for packaging, the packaging I received seems to have space for pretty much any number of expansion modules (I had 8), see below.

Hi guys,
I received mine yesterday. Like @devnull , I installed pop_OS. But before I installed Fedora 35. Iām trying to get my Dell D6000 dock working, but DisplayLink is giving me a headache on both distros. But this problem is not related to the Framework. Other than that, pop and Fedora seem to be working correctly out of the box. I just had to upgrade the bios to 3.07.
As Iām typing this message, I feel like the space bar doesnāt feel like the other keys, the travel seems to be shorter.
I hope all the batch 9 frameworkers will get theirs shortly !
Cheers
Did you? I tried following the instructions for that, but it looked like it was already v3.07. Have I missed something?
Just received mine today! Took a long time, but Iām happy it is here!
Ordered: 14th of February, DIY i7, no NVME, no RAM
Regards,
Robert
Iāll be honest with you, I did not even check what the version was before I upgraded. I just saw the upgrade process and it went well.
Oh and I forgot to tell. The input sound is better on pop than on Fedora. I donāt know why. I installed all the updates available on Fedora and it was still not so good, compared to pop.
Oh phew
You mean the built in microphone? Thatās interesting. I read a bunch of posts saying the mic was absolute garbage, but i just did a test call and the person on the other end said they could hear me perfectly. Maybe itās an OS thing (Iām running Mint).
Maybe Debian-based OS have better audio driver, I donāt know.
But as Iām writing this message, Iām making a USB key to installā¦ Windows 10ā¦ I couldnāt get my dock station working (Dell D6000). So Iām temporarily going back to Win10 until I find a fully working dock. But Iāll take this opportunity to make a comparision between Win and Linux distros
As I donāt know if there has been any report of shipping to Ireland, I should note that I received mine (i7-1165, 8 expansion modules) today, via DHL going TaipeiāSingapore (via Linex), then DHL SingaporeāBahraināEast MidlandsāDublin. Certainly no customs problems: it was delivered within a few hours of the EMLāDUB flight arriving, which was impressive, and a day earlier than estimated.
The laptop itself has been wonderful so far. The keyboard feel has been far, far better than the horribly thin keyboard on the (more expensive!) XPS 13 I was using, though Iād agree that the large left-and-right keys are an odd choice, and I think Iād prefer equally-sized keys with a page up and page down. For me, it isnāt so much a matter of the up and down being small, as keys with similar purposes in that area being different sizes. However, with the way that the input cover is cut, it looks like that (six key) keyboard could actually be made and would fit without any problems. The camera also actually works with Linux, unlike the (2-in-1) XPS 13.
When I checked levels on the mic in Archlinux and Gnome without having changed any input volume settings, they were far too high, such that it was clipping quite a bit and there was a lot of noise. Looking on alsamixer, where the direct sound card setting are a bit easier to access, there are three settings: volume, gain, and internal gain. I found that having both gains at zero seemed to work best. Pipewire/etc seemed to set some combination of volume and internal gain: a relatively low volume setting in Gnome was actually 100% volume, 0% internal gain.
Often I feel like the problem with mics on computers is that the input volume is too high, rather than too low, causing clipping that makes everything inaudible.
Just received mine as well. Tried a first install of FreeBSD 13.1 RC1, but running into some driver problems for intel iGPU. Going to wait for RELEASE until I try again, so installed my beloved Arch instead for now.
I havenāt used pop in ages, but for tearing - is the compositor active? Are you running Gnome on top of X or Wayland? I have not tested Wayland with this chipset yet, but on X with picom as my compositor (bspwm as Window Manager) I have no tearing at all. In theory and in my experience, tearing should be easier to avoid on Wayland though.
Automatic backlight is interesting though, most of the time itās harder to turn that stuff ON than having issues turning it OFF. I would assume this should be controlled by Gnome somewhere. Worst case, you can always try KDE Plasma to see if things work better there.
As for keyboard - until recently my main laptop usage (for work) was a 2019 Macbook Pro. So to me, the KB is absolute glory.
So the screen tearing is gone with Wayland (Including fractional scaling and the arch wiki fix). (You will need to fix blurry firefox stuff, but thatās fine)
Automatic backlight was in the power panel of settings. Simple enough!
Keyboard is just one of those things manā¦ I like the keyboard, itās just not as good as a Thinkpad keyboard IMO.
I am noticing some rattling in the touchpad. Almost as if itās loose / missing screws or something. Planning on diving into that after work
Yeah, my GF was issued a ThinkPad from her work, and that keyboard almost made me order one for myself instead of a FrameWork. Such epic glory. But Iām happy enough with the FW keyboard, and I am definitely liking the dimensions of the screen on the FW better than the traditional screens on most laptops.
For myself though, fractional scaling isnāt that big of a deal, since the only thing I use that could need it is some video games (but my FW is not intended for gaming), and the browser (which has zoom). For my coding I find myself mostly sitting in terminals (because SpaceVim is just so good, and I have a loathing for touchpads in general so even if I used VS Code or similar Iād still want a āvim modeā).
All in all, very happy. I do have some concerns about my WiFi reception though. Downloaded some games yesterday, planning to ājust test things outā etcetera, and damn it was slow. Will have to look into it more after work today to figure out if it was just Steam or my internet being randomly slow that evening, or if thereās an issue with the antennas on my unit.
And of course, I am quite happy about how almost any problem on these is actually fixable. My old Macbook Pro (2019) from work was starting to become actually unusable without an attached keyboard, because the space bar was starting to glitch out. So from āshit KBā to āunusable KBā, rendering a 2500 euro laptop potentially scrapā¦ With the FW, itās nice that as long as the company survives that will not be a concern.
I was hoping that today would be the day of getting a delivery notice, but its looking like Iām going to the last person in batch9 to get there laptop, always fun
Well I got an update, not the update I wanted
You are receiving this email as there has been a minor shipping delay on your Framework order due to an issue with inbound stock of Western Digital 1TB SN850 SSDs to our fulfillment center in Taiwan. We are expecting inbound stock to arrive early next week (week of April 11th) which will allow us to ship your order, in full, after their arrival.
Waiting for next week when they say we donāt have the ram now
Same message for me unfortunately - UK
In theory, the sticks should already be picked. No professional fulfillment center waits with picking until everything is in stock.
But yeah, I was worried things like this could happen. I think it was WD that had a major contamination incident recently, forcing them to discard a massive amount of flash.
For me it is the same. I got also got an email about āmissingā SSDās.
I am becoming a bit worried, because this last email is from a different mail-address. If there is no delivery within the next 2 weeks I will start a dispute through the CreditCard company. After all: my card was charged and nothing is being delivered.
At least the first mail (the packaging one), did say that you are free to cancel. I would sort of assume that the same thing would apply to this. So why dispute instead of just cancelling, if thatās what you want to do?
Iām still on stage 3 since March 30th with no information about delays. Hope there will be at least some information soon.
It is not what I want to do. But what I maybe have to do, because they collected my money already. What I really want is the laptop, but shoving up deliveries the way it is going right now is just wrong. I ordered on February 26 , paid nearly ā¬2000. And what do I have in hand?
Well, i will stop ranting and be silent from now on ā¦
The Framework team is certainly doing what it can. But I admit, March has been over for a few days already.
If an AMD option is available by the time our laptop ships, I might want to change my order .
