I have some concerns in deciding wether to get or not get a framework laptop and would like some advice.
The situation: Framework does not ship to my address nor does it accept credit cards from my country, so a forwarding address is not sufficient. My plan is to have a friend in the states purchase it and ship it to me. (I understand that this may invalidate the warranty ).
First id like to say that in my opinion, the best part about the framework laptop is its repairibilty and upgradability.
I don’t want to keep contacting my friend everytime i want to purchase a framework laptop related item , so my main concern right now is wether its worth it to get the framrwork laptop under these conditions.
What do you guys think? Should i invest in it althought it will be difficult to purchase further parts or should i just invest my money in something i can find locally? I’m in the middle east.
edit: Im planning to use a linux OS. The exact distro hasn’t been decided. Most likely fedora or ubuntu.
I strongly suggest waiting until Framework ships to your country. If you ask your friend to purchase a laptop on your behalf, they will be considered the owner of the device and all warranty requests would need to be handled by them. So not only do you bear a higher burden of cost to initially ship the device to your country, you will also have to handle shipping to your friend for any warranty related purposes. In addition, your country’s customs may seize the device when your friend ships it to you which has previously happened to another community member. This is because Framework is not authorized to sell in your country.
Lastly, while the Framework laptop is highly repairable and upgradeable, this goes hand in hand with easy accessibility to parts. As you live in an unsupported region, should you need to obtain parts, not only will it be more difficult, it will also be more costly for you.
