Best place for SD Expansion Cards

So far I have my SD Expansion Cards slotted in number 2. Is there a better placement for this? or am I fine using this spot. I only ask as I have had moments where the Expansion card disconnected from the computer, sometimes relating to a GitHub upload issue. But other times just randomly.

Personally, I use mine in 3 or 6, since it it doesn’t benefit from the extra features on the other ports.

I haven’t had any issue with it disconnecting inappropriately. Definitely doesn’t seem like GitHub should be effecting it.

I have been delighted with the way it handles cards being inserted and removed. Seems to show as an optical drive to the OS, so that device should never disconnect?

Maybe I just got a bad expansion card from day one (which if that is the case would suck :/) Just now I tried to open up my 3D printing slicer which is on that drive and it notified me saying the drive failed and to scan it. I have scanned it a fair few times. I just assumed it was a possible bug associating to it still being sorta new.

I like the ability of being able to use different programs on the drives like games, 3d printing, animation, game develpment and music with the ease of the expansion cards but the driver having an occasional issue worries me at times. I have two but I don’t often use the other one. I should probably insert both into the laptop to see if it’s the driver or the laptop itself.

Just to clarify, are you running apps off an SD card plugged into the SD card reader expansion card? Or are you actually having trouble with a storage expansion card?

Storage cards disconnecting on windows is a known issue, that you might be able to fix by reformatting: 250GB storage module & windows - repeated "connect / disconnect" chimes

I don’t think the root cause is known, but there have been a few posts about it over the years

I’m pretty certain I have formatted them. But I can’t remember.
Luckily I haven’t lost files or had any major issue. Just some worries that occur I guess.
On the one that is currently in the laptop it does hold Steam, Code and my Slicer program.
I think the problem mostly happens during heavy load or running something that it might not be ready for yet. AKA when I tried to upload a Git file but included a big file which crashed the Git launcher and thus crashed the drive or launching OrcaSlicer a couple seconds from turning the laptop on.
I don’t think any issues have happened while gaming (as of yet) But I’ll keep an eye out.
If this seems to be a Windows issue then I guess eventually it’ll get fixed. If it’s a 250GB storage issue then eventually I’ll be switching up to the 1TB.

I’ll keep an eye and see what causes the frequent issues (in my case). Maybe it’ll be useful for others or the Framework Team to troubleshoot the problems if I document it.

Cheers anyway
